Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer (Hybrid) to be based in Houston, TX.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking design and planning activities on maritime projects - container terminals, mining/bulk, oil/gas, marinas, ports and harbors, coastal defense and development schemes.
  • Maritime design and planning, including maritime codes/standards such as USACE, PIANC, OCIMF.
  • Structural design for wharves, piles, sheet piles, dolphins, across the United States.
  • Independently prepare engineering related calculations and develop structural technical specifications, plans, and details.
  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
  • Occasional short to medium term site visits may also become necessary depending on project requirements.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid Driver’s license required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science (with structural engineering concentration)
  • Ten (10) years or more of related experience
  • Experience in the design of marine structures including wharves, piles, sheet piles, and dolphins in seismic zones
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer analysis and design software such as SAP 2000, RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, LPILE, SAFE and (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
  • Demonstrable interest in developing a career in Ports & Marine Engineering
  • Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive
