Job Description
This Opportunity
WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Ports and Marine Engineer based out of our Seattle, WA office.
Provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; these facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore/offshore facilities. Delivers work products at a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
  • With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Assist with the development of project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.
  • Assist with identification of project site, design and construction related risks and providing input on mitigation activities.
  • Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings, using sketches, calculations, excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software.
  • Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work. This includes working collaboratively with other engineers and larger multi-disciplinary teams, on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Complete all assigned trainings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited program.
  • 0 to 1 years of experience;
  • Prior engineering internship experiences
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software and tools, and engineering fundamentals including statics and logical problem-solving. Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SAP2000 and similar tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and the ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience, with exposure to ports and marine structures (including rehabilitation and new design).
  • EIT Certification.
  • Experience with REVIT and MathCAD and other similar software.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles, practices and regulations and design/build processes.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $69,900 - $96,030
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
