Job description

Job Title: Engineering Systems Administration ManagerJob Description

The Engineering Systems Administration Manager oversees the analysis, coordination, and processing of engineering change requests and orders within a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. This role works closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, software, quality, product management, and compliance, to ensure accurate and timely implementation of changes with minimal errors, rework, and delays. The position focuses on managing change controls for complex systems and components, including software, electronics, mechanical elements, and sensors, supporting both new product introduction and sustaining engineering activities in a high-tech, long-term project environment.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze, coordinate, and process engineering change requests and change orders in the designated PLM system.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, software, quality, product management, and compliance, to gather all information required to complete change requests and orders accurately.
  • Evaluate systems engineering changes in new product and sustaining projects to ensure seamless introduction into operations.
  • Conduct impact analyses on proposed changes, assessing feasibility, risk, and operational impact.
  • Assess change readiness across stakeholders and identify required actions to support successful implementation.
  • Prepare, communicate, and follow up with internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of change-related tasks.
  • Create part numbers, assembly numbers, and structured bills of materials (BOMs) in the PLM system.
  • Manage change controls for BOMs covering software, electronics, mechanical, and systems components to ensure compliance and design assurance.
  • Leverage established change management methodologies, processes, and tools to create and execute strategies that support the rollout of changes for various projects and initiatives.
  • Delegate activities to stakeholders and team members to ensure complete and timely implementation of engineering changes.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on the change control process and the PLM system, including coordination with IT to properly maintain and optimize the system.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of New Product Introduction (NPI) systems and sustaining engineering processes as they relate to configuration and change management.
  • Support design assurance and compliance activities by ensuring engineering changes meet applicable standards and requirements.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering teams to manage systems engineering changes, balancing new product development and sustaining efforts.
  • Contribute to the resilience and reliability of systems by ensuring that engineering changes are well-documented, traceable, and compliant with internal procedures.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 4 years of experience managing systems engineering changes in new product and/or sustaining engineering projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with expert proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency with IT software and a PLM system.
  • Hands-on experience working with ERP or MRP systems.
  • Experience with systems management and systems design engineering.
  • Experience with change control and change management processes in an engineering or electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in creating and managing engineering bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Ability to perform impact analyses and assess change readiness across projects and stakeholders.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with engineering and related teams.
  • Ability to act as a subject matter expert on PLM systems and change control processes.
  • Associated degree in engineering with 8–10+ years of relevant experience, or at least 4+ years of experience with a BSEE, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering (BSCE), or similar engineering degree.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with ERP systems; familiarity with any ERP platform is acceptable.
  • Experience with PLM systems; familiarity with any PLM platform is acceptable.
  • Background in electronics manufacturing, systems, or sensor-based products.
  • Knowledge of design assurance and compliance processes for engineering changes.
  • Understanding of hazard-mitigation systems, fire and gas detection, or other safety-related technologies is beneficial.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering activities from a configuration and change management perspective.
  • Ability to develop and apply structured change management methodologies and tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when creating part numbers, assembly structures, and BOMs.
  • Effective communication skills for working with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort working in a high-tech environment with long-term, complex engineering projects.
Work Environment

The role operates within an engineering-focused environment that supports high-tech, safety-critical products such as flame and gas detection and hazard-mitigation systems. The work involves extensive use of PLM systems, ERP/MRP platforms, and standard office productivity tools such as Microsoft Office. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams, including software, electronics, mechanical, quality, product management, and compliance.
