Location: Mahwah, NJ - Hybrid
Duration: 18 Months (Contract)
About the Job
The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical execution of capital equipment and manufacturing improvement projects from concept through production release. Working closely with Project Managers, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Facilities, Supply Chain, and external equipment suppliers, this role ensures projects are delivered on schedule while meeting safety, quality, and operational objectives. This position serves as the technical validation lead for project execution, working with equipment SMEs on design reviews, vendor management, installation, commissioning, qualification, and issue resolution across multiple manufacturing projects.
Key Responsibilities & Day-to-Day Support Project Managers in the execution of capital projects by coordinating project activities, tracking action items, and communicating with cross-functional teams. Attend project meetings, assist with equipment installations, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and validation activities. Work with engineering teams and suppliers to resolve technical issues and maintain comprehensive project documentation. Balance time between the office and the manufacturing floor while learning the project lifecycle and progressively taking ownership of project tasks.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (entry level candidates encouraged to apply). Experience: 0 to 2 years of engineering experience (internships and co-op experience considered). Core Competencies: Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities. Strong technical aptitude, demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and a desire to learn project management, manufacturing processes, and capital equipment implementation.
Preferred Qualifications
Medical Device industry experience. Internship or co-op experience in manufacturing, engineering, or project-based work. Experience working in a team environment through school projects, internships, or extracurricular activities. Exposure to manufacturing processes, automation, or robotics. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement principles (PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or other project management certifications are a plus). Experience using Microsoft Project, Excel, or other project management tools.
