Job description

Job Title

Part-Time On-Call Driver

Employment Status: Part-Time / On-Call

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Operations / Transportation Support

Reports To: Inventory Manager

Location: Ron Marhofer Auto Family – Northeast Ohio
(Extensive travel required)

Job Summary

The Part-Time On-Call Driver is responsible for the safe, timely transportation of dealership vehicles, including long-distance acquisition runs and customer home deliveries. This position requires flexibility, strict adherence to compliance and documentation standards, attention to detail, and professional interaction with internal team members and guests. Drivers must be available on an on-call basis and reliably accept assigned runs.

Availability & Scheduling Requirements

  • Must be available to work up to 20 hours per week based on business needs
  • Must submit availability and time-off requests in advance
  • Refusal of three (3) assigned runs within a rolling 90-day period will result in dismissal
  • Must be able to complete long-distance drives of up to 15 hours

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Vehicle Transportation & Acquisition

  • Conduct long-distance vehicle pickups for used vehicle inventory
  • Deliver vehicles safely, professionally, and in a timely manner
  • Perform pre- and post-transfer inspections of all vehicles (interior and exterior)
  • Ensure vehicles are clean and free of damage prior to delivery acceptance
  • Verify VIN numbers and mileage before departing the dealership
  • Ensure secure and successful vehicle transfers to designated destinations

 

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure all required paperwork is complete, accurate, and accompanies the correct vehicle
  • Cross-reference vehicle identification numbers (VIN) and stock numbers
  • Confirm a copy of the dealer invoice accompanies each transaction
  • Maintain compliance with dealership policies and procedures at all times

Home Delivery Responsibilities

  • Conduct customer home deliveries in accordance with dealership standards
  • Verify all signers’ driver’s licenses prior to initiating document signing
  • Ensure documents are signed exactly as typed, unless the signature matches the driver’s license
  • Provide a blue ink pen for customer document signing
  • Confirm delivery location changes with a Team Leader prior to proceeding
  • Immediately report any suspicious or irregular transactions to the Team Leader or Business Manager

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Certifications as required by the dealership
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must meet dealership insurance and insurability requirements at all times

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles repeatedly
  • Ability to perform visual inspections of vehicles
  • Ability to lift, bend, and move as required for vehicle inspections

Work Environment

  • Frequent long-distance travel
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Interaction with dealership staff, vendors, and customers
