Job Summary

The Site Reliability Engineering team is responsible for managing the critical infrastructure that powers FreeWheel's Streaming Hub platform. Streaming Hub is a large-scale advertising technology platform that delivers and serves advertising for premium media clients, including major broadcasters and content providers such as NBCUniversal. The platform supports high-volume, business-critical advertising delivery and requires exceptional reliability, scalability, and performance.

Job Description

Role Responsibilities

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will own and support the infrastructure that underpins FreeWheel's streaming and advertising platforms. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, networking, and operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and maintain business-critical production infrastructure supporting FreeWheel's Streaming Hub platform.
  • Design, implement, and execute infrastructure changes required to support new product launches, client requirements, and engineering initiatives.
  • Partner closely with product development and engineering teams to build and modify infrastructure in support of platform enhancements and new capabilities.
  • Build, manage, and optimize Kubernetes environments, including Amazon EKS clusters and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Ensure platform availability, reliability, scalability, security, and performance in a 24x7 production environment.
  • Participate in code-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and incident resolution for complex production issues.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and automation frameworks.
  • Automate operational processes using Python, Go, Terraform, and Ansible.
  • Work closely with offshore operations teams to provide operational coverage and incident response across a 12-hour daily support model.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve system observability, monitoring, deployment processes, and production readiness.
  • Support high-profile live events and traffic spikes, ensuring platform stability during major streaming and advertising events.

Preferred Technical Experience

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Strong experience with AWS (required) and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Hands-on experience building and managing cloud infrastructure, networking, and production environments.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Amazon EKS (Kubernetes)
    • VPCs
    • Load Balancers
    • Route 53
    • IAM
    • Security Groups
    • Networking architecture and performance tuning

Kubernetes & Containerization

  • Extensive experience operating and managing Kubernetes clusters in production.
  • Experience building, upgrading, scaling, and troubleshooting Kubernetes environments
  • Experience with Docker and containerized application architectures.

Infrastructure as Code & Automation

  • Strong Terraform experience (required).
  • Experience using Ansible for infrastructure automation and configuration management.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins.
  • Ability to automate operational workflows and infrastructure management tasks.

Programming

  • Strong scripting and automation experience using:
    • Python
    • Go (Golang)
  • Experience developing tools, services, or automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and platform reliability.

Networking

  • Solid understanding of network architecture and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with:
    • Load balancing
    • Traffic management
    • Network performance tuning
    • Security and access controls
    • Distributed systems networking

Salary:

Virginia Pay Range: $109,178.41 - $163,767.61
