We pride ourselves on the work we perform and the services we provide. HES is hiring an Energy Engineer specializing in Building Commissioning to join our team.

The Energy Engineer (Commissioning) will support and execute new construction commissioning (Cx) and retro-commissioning (RCx) projects across a portfolio of commercial, institutional, and multi-family buildings. This role focuses on verifying that building systems are designed, installed, tested, and operated to meet the Owner's Project Requirements and applicable code, certification, and performance criteria.

  • Execute Functional Performance Testing: Lead and witness FPTs of air-side, water-side, BAS, lighting controls, and emergency power systems; verify sequences of operation and proper system response.
  • Support Retro-Commissioning Studies: Conduct onsite performance testing of existing building systems, identify Retro-Commissioning Measures, and quantify low- and no-cost operational savings.
  • Develop Systems Manuals and Training: Compile systems manuals and assist with O&M training to support owner handoff.
  • Support Certification and Compliance: Support LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning, ASHRAE Guideline 0/1.1/1.5, and project-specific certification requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Facilities)
  • 1-3 years of experience in commissioning, MEP design, construction, or energy engineering, including at least one internship, co-op, or full-time role
  • Working understanding of HVAC equipment (AHUs, chillers, boilers, VRF, VAV, terminal units), BAS sequences of operation, and basic electrical systems
  • Familiarity with construction documents, specifications (CSI MasterFormat), and submittal review
  • Exposure to LEED commissioning requirements and/or ASHRAE Guideline 0 preferred
  • Comfortable working onsite in active construction environments (PPE required)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and PDF markup tools (Bluebeam, Adobe)
  • Experience with large commercial and multi-family buildings preferred but not necessary
