Internship Labview information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship LabVIEW, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship LabVIEW, you need a solid understanding of engineering principles, programming basics, and familiarity with data acquisition systems, often supported by coursework in electrical or mechanical engineering. Experience with National Instruments LabVIEW software, and potentially NI certifications or exposure to related hardware, is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help interns collaborate on technical projects and troubleshoot issues. These competencies are crucial for efficiently developing and testing automation solutions in a laboratory or industrial environment.

What types of projects do interns typically work on during a LabVIEW internship?

As a LabVIEW intern, you can expect to be involved in developing, testing, and troubleshooting automated measurement and control systems. Typical projects include creating virtual instruments, automating data acquisition processes, and supporting ongoing engineering tasks with LabVIEW code enhancements. Interns often collaborate with experienced engineers and may participate in team meetings, code reviews, and hands-on lab testing, providing valuable real-world experience in both software and hardware integration within an engineering team.

What is an Internship LabVIEW position?

An Internship LabVIEW position is a temporary role, often for students or recent graduates, that focuses on learning and applying LabVIEW, a graphical programming language used for data acquisition, instrument control, and industrial automation. Interns in this role typically assist with developing, testing, and maintaining LabVIEW-based applications under the supervision of experienced engineers. The internship provides hands-on experience in programming, troubleshooting, and integrating hardware and software systems. It is a valuable opportunity to gain practical skills relevant to careers in engineering, automation, and research environments.

What is the difference between Internship Labview vs Internship Test Engineer?

AspectInternship LabviewInternship Test Engineer
Required SkillsLabVIEW programming, data acquisition, control systemsTesting procedures, automation, scripting
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, development teams, electronics manufacturingQuality assurance, product testing, electronics and software industries
CertificationsLabVIEW certification often preferredISTQB or similar testing certifications beneficial

Internship Labview focuses on developing skills in LabVIEW programming and data acquisition, often within research or development settings. Internship Test Engineer emphasizes testing and automation skills in quality assurance environments. You'll perform measurements as they come in as well as working on longer term activities relating to improving the operation of our test labs in San Jose. We have a wide range of equipment for characterization of semiconductor devices - automated parametric test systems, semiconductor parameter analyzers, noise characterization systems, TLP testers (used for ESD structure characterization), semi-automatic and automatic probe stations with most testing done at the wafer level.

The lab works on a variety of technologies including image sensors, ASICs, BCD, high voltage, analog mixed signal, and low voltage. You will support daily activities but also will get a chance to work on longer term improvement to have a lasting impact on our lab.

As new technology development requires development of devices which must be characterized, this work is a critical part of the device development process and we are looking for someone who can help improve efficiency.

Some typical activities would be:

Wafer level measurements on test structures using semiconductor parameter analyzers

Writing and running test programs on our Keysight/Agilent automatic parametric test systems (code in Rocky Mountain Basic or C)

Testing ESD (electrostatic discharge) devices using TLP (transmission line pulse) testers

Performing noise measurements using a flicker noise system

Writing scripts to summarize large amounts of data using appropriate scripting languages

Enabling automation to free up test engineering resources to support more measurement activities
