Lake Superior State University (LSSU), located in the beautiful city of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Information Technology team as a Jr. Systems Administrator. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to begin your career in higher education technology, working closely with enterprise systems and gaining valuable experience in software development, system integration, and Oracle-based technologies.

As a Jr. Systems Administrator, you will support the university’s mission by working on the design, development, and maintenance of applications that enhance and extend LSSU’s core administrative system—Ellucian Banner. You will be part of a collaborative and experienced IT team focused on delivering efficient and secure technical solutions to campus stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop scripts, reports, and applications using tools such as Oracle PL/SQL, SQL*Plus, and Java.
  • Assist in system analysis and the development of programming specifications for projects and enhancements.
  • Support and improve the functionality of Ellucian Banner and other enterprise systems.
  • Configure and support Single Sign-On (SSO) and help integrate cloud-based applications.
  • Provide data extraction and reporting services for departments across campus.
  • Maintain technical documentation and follow IT best practices in code development and support.
  • Collaborate with users and team members to troubleshoot issues and ensure smooth operation of applications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience in application development.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Working knowledge of Oracle databases, Linux/Windows environments, and languages such as Java, HTML, JavaScript, Git, or XML.
  • Familiarity with Ellucian Banner or higher education administrative systems.
  • Exposure to ERP integration, user authentication systems, or report-building tools like Argos.
