Job Summary The Information Technology (IT) Intern supports the City of Chaska's municipal technology operations. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional government IT environment. The ideal candidate will have interest or experience in modern cloud technologies and endpoint management while also assisting with day-to-day technical support, hardware/software installations, and service calls.

This role is perfect for a student pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field who wants real-world exposure to enterprise IT systems. This is a seasonal, full-time internship that will last from approximately June through August 2026. Responsibilities Assists with cloud administration tasks in Microsoft 365 (O365), Entra ID (Azure AD), and Intune, including user account management, device enrollment, and policy configuration.

Supports Microsoft Teams administration and optimization, Webex Calling configuration and troubleshooting, and other cloud technologies. Applies basic networking understanding to troubleshoot connectivity issues, assists with wired and wireless network configurations, supports VoIP phone systems (including Webex Calling), and diagnoses basic network-related problems for City staff. Participates in endpoint management using Intune for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices.

Helps with technical installations and deployments including workstations, peripherals, software applications, and network equipment. Responds to service calls and support tickets for City staff; provides friendly and efficient first-level troubleshooting for hardware, software, and connectivity issues. Assists with inventory management, asset tracking, and documentation of IT processes.

Contributes to special projects such as system upgrades, data migrations, and/or process improvements. Maintains accurate documentation and follows City IT policies and security best practices. Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the IT Department.

Qualifications Education and Experience Currently enrolled or recently completed a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field at an accredited college or university. Experience with helpdesk ticketing systems and remote support tools preferred Previous customer service, retail, or technical support experience preferred Hands-on experience and/or coursework in the following areas preferred: Microsoft 365 / Office 365 administration Microsoft Intune and Entra ID Microsoft Teams Webex Calling or Cisco telephony solutions Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic understanding of computer hardware, networking, and Windows operating systems. Knowledge of Cloud administration concepts (Azure or similar) and basic scripting (PowerShell preferred) or automation preferred.

Reliable transportation and ability to work on-site in Chaska. Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users. Ability to pass a background check (required for all City positions).
