7242 – Azure Database Engineer (Candidates MUST Reside in St Paul area)

Location: Onsite – Minnesota

Job Type: Contract

We are seeking an experienced Azure Database Engineer to support a large-scale cloud modernization initiative. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting Azure database and data lake solutions while ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing data environments. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Azure data technologies, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise database administration.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement relational and non-relational databases in Azure.
  • Design, develop, and support Azure Data Lake and Lakehouse solutions.
  • Develop and implement data transformation processes.
  • Optimize database performance and data access patterns.
  • Administer, maintain, and secure Azure database environments.
  • Coordinate with technical teams to ensure compliance with security standards.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Support CI/CD deployment processes.
  • Monitor and optimize Azure database performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor other database engineers.
  • Participate in knowledge transfer and ongoing support activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing Azure relational and non-relational databases.
  • Experience with Azure Data Lakes and Databricks.
  • Experience with Oracle databases.
  • Strong experience developing and implementing data transformation solutions.
  • Experience loading and managing data using Azure data utilities.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Azure cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Experience using Azure Monitor, Azure Data Factory, SQL Analytics, Query Performance Insight, Azure Resource Manager, and Azure CLI/PowerShell.
  • Experience implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience with role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and network security.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, schema design, indexing strategies, and database optimization.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience mentoring technical team members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven (7) or more years of experience designing and implementing Azure database solutions.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and Elastic Pools.
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse Administration.
  • Experience with Teradata Data Warehouse environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise cloud modernization initiatives.
