Job description

Position Summary

I & E Technician I is an entry level position responsible for assisting in the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, control systems, and automation equipment used in oil and gas production, processing, and pipeline operations. Under direct supervision, the technician will develop hands on skills across field instrumentation, SCADA platforms, and electrical systems while adhering to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Commissioning: Assist with the installation, wiring, and loop checkout of field instruments including pressure transmitters, flow meters, level sensors, thermocouples, RTDs, and control valves.
  • Maintenance & Calibration: Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and calibration of instrumentation and control equipment per manufacturer specifications and site procedures.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair malfunctions in field instruments, control panels, PLCs, and associated wiring under the guidance of senior technicians.
  • Low Voltage Electrical Systems: Support installation and maintenance of low voltage electrical systems, including intrinsically safe and explosion proof equipment in classified hazardous areas.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work orders, calibration data sheets, as built drawings, and equipment histories in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Safety & Compliance: Work in compliance with all HSE policies, OSHA regulations, API standards, and site specific procedures; participate actively in daily safety meetings and JSAs.
  • Continuous Learning: Complete assigned training programs, certifications, and on the job development plans to progress toward Automation Technician II qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience in industrial instrumentation, automation, or electrical work (internship/co op experience considered).
  • Foundational understanding of process instrumentation concepts (4-20 mA loops, HART, Modbus).
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record; ability to travel to field sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework with Emerson Roc107 or ABB Remote Terminal Units
  • Experience or coursework with Allen Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens, or similar PLC platforms.
  • Familiarity with SCADA platforms (Ignition).
  • Prior oil and gas field experience (upstream, midstream, or downstream).

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding outdoor environments.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Weekends, Holidays and Callouts required to support operational needs.
