Primary Purpose of Position:
The Process Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and high-quality production of molded parts. This experienced technician provides technical expertise in setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing injection molding processes.
Organizational Relationship:
This position will report directly to the Technical Manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Set up, calibrate, and operate injection molding machines to meet production schedules and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues, including molding defects, machine malfunctions, and material inconsistencies.
• Optimize molding parameters to improve cycle times, reduce scrap rates, and enhance part quality.
• Conduct root cause analysis on process deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Maintain detailed and accurate process documentation, including machine setup records, SPC data, and quality reports.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
• Assist with preventive maintenance activities and monitor machine performance to minimize downtime.
• Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced technical training or certification in plastics technology, injection molding, or related fields preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in injection molding process operation and optimization.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex molding and machine issues.
• Experience working with advanced injection molding machines and automation preferred.
• Must possess or be willing to possess RJG Mold Master II certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Deep knowledge of injection molding processes, mold design, material behavior, and process parameters.
• Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and process data.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis, and quality improvement tools.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative on process improvements.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Computer skills including MS Office and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
Physical Requirements
• Ability to push, pull, lift, move and/or carry up to 50lbs.
• Ability to frequently reach overhead.
• Ability to frequently stoop, bend and kneel.
Working Conditions
• Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machinery.
• May involve standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights.
• Flexible shift work may be required.
