Employment Type: Part time unpaid internship
Duration: 8-week fall internship
Position Summary:
The Executive Director Intern will support the leadership team in the overall management and daily operations of our assisted living community. This internship offers hands-on experience in senior living administration, regulatory compliance, resident care coordination, team leadership, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is a proactive and compassionate individual aspiring to build a career in healthcare or senior living management.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Executive Director in the day-to-day management of community operations.
  • Participate in meetings related to staffing, budgeting, compliance, and resident services.
  • Learn and help ensure adherence to state licensing requirements and safety regulations.
  • Support initiatives that enhance resident satisfaction and quality of life.
  • Work with department heads (nursing, culinary, housekeeping, activities, etc.) to understand interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Assist with marketing, tours, and family communications as needed.
  • Help monitor and improve operational processes and resident care standards.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, or audits as assigned.
  • Shadow and assist in staff management, scheduling, and conflict resolution.

Learning Objectives:
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of leadership roles in a senior living community.
  • Develop skills in team supervision, regulatory compliance, and resident-centered care.
  • Learn operational functions including budgeting, HR, marketing, and quality assurance.

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Healthcare Administration, Gerontology, Business, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in senior living, long-term care, or healthcare leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Compassionate, respectful, and sensitive to the needs of the elderly population.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Preferred:
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, customer service, or administrative setting.
  • Knowledge of assisted living or long-term care industry practices and regulations.
