TRUMPF is seeking candidates for an internship in the Sheetmetal Fabrication Department at our Farmington, CT location. This internship will provide a college-level student with practical and professional experience that will enhance and compliment their classroom learning. This internship will be January 2026 to August 2026 for at least 32 hours a week.

Principle Roles & Responsibilities

  • Participate in development / implementation of various Sheet Metal Department projects

  • Implementation of on time delivery and productivity improvements ideas/tasks e.g. punch cassette standardization

  • Create current state analysis to define baseline and implement systematic problem solving approaches for better future state

  • Responsible of introducing new parts to automated Laser Weld and Arc Weld processes (Identify potential parts, Design fixtures/ setup for welding processes, Run tryouts, Create documentation, Finalize implementation

  • Participate in development / standardization of quality and safety procedures within the Sheet Metal Department

  • Support area supervisors with tasks/project work to help achieving SMD goals

  • Must have the ability to understand and communicate information effectively both verbally and electronically

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.

Experience

  • The ideal candidate would have practical experience in a manufacturing environment (i.e. past internship)

  • Experience with MS Office software packages and specifically Visual basic Programming / Advance Excel knowledge

  • Experience with 3D-Modelling software preferable SolidWorks

  • Theoretical or experimental experience in Sheet Metal Fabrication is a plus but not required

Education/Requirements

  • The ideal applicant would have a background in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing engineering (combination of engineering and economical studies is also acceptable)

  • Analytic skills and thoroughness required

  • Good communication skills and creativity are essential

  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently is required

  • Extravert personality is a plus

  • Must be a student enrolled in an accredited university or institution pursuing an undergraduate’s degree in a related field.
