Internship In information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Intern, you need a strong willingness to learn, basic knowledge relevant to the field, and typically be enrolled in or recently graduated from a related academic program. Familiarity with productivity tools such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and sometimes specific software relevant to the industry, is often expected. Initiative, adaptability, and effective communication are standout soft skills for interns. These skills and qualities enable interns to contribute meaningfully, adapt quickly, and maximize their learning during the internship experience.

What are some common challenges interns face during their internship, and how can they overcome them?

Interns often encounter challenges such as adapting to a new work environment, managing time effectively, and balancing multiple tasks. It's common to feel overwhelmed at first, but seeking guidance from supervisors and proactively asking questions can help clarify expectations. Building relationships with team members and regularly requesting feedback can also foster growth and confidence. Remember, internships are learning experiences, so don't hesitate to reach out for support when needed.

What is an internship?

An internship is a temporary position offered by organizations to students or recent graduates to gain practical work experience in a specific field. Internships can be paid or unpaid and typically last from a few weeks to several months. They provide valuable hands-on training, networking opportunities, and a chance to apply academic knowledge in real-world settings. Many internships can also lead to full-time job offers upon successful completion.

Job description

Doctoral Internship in Psychology
Groves Learning Organization – St. Louis Park, MN
Status: Full-Time (40 hours/week), Temporary (12 Months)
Pay amp; Benefits: $35,000 annual, Benefits-eligible
Duration: August 2026 – August 2027 (start and end dates are flexible)
Groves Learning Organization (GLO) is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to transforming the way our nation is taught—one student, one teacher, and one school at a time. Located in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, GLO includes Groves Academy, the Learning Center, and the Groves Literacy Partnership. Our mission is to build confidence, success, and purpose through transformative learning experiences. We are grounded in the values of Authenticity, Compassion, Collaboration, Discovery, and Tenacity.

We are seeking a doctoral-level psychology intern who is eager to gain rich experience across a wide range of psychological and educational services within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
About the Internship

Psychoeducational Evaluations
The intern will conduct psychoeducational evaluations under the supervision of licensed psychologists and nationally certified school psychologists. Our diagnostics team works with school-aged and college-age students, with a primary focus on learning and attention disorders, as well as anxiety, depression, and other social–emotional concerns. Interns will:
  • Administer, score, and interpret a wide range of cognitive, academic, social–emotional, executive functioning, personality, neuropsychological, and language assessments
  • Conduct clinical interviews
  • Write comprehensive evaluation reports
  • Provide feedback to clients and families
  • Work with both community clients and Groves Academy students
  • Participate in weekly group consultation sessions and monthly department meetings.
Groves Academy Student Support
Groves Academy is the Midwest’s leading school for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges. The intern may engage with our school community through:
  • Consultation with teachers
  • Academic and social–emotional intervention planning
  • Implementation of behavioral and social–emotional interventions
Additional Opportunities
Based on intern interests and goals, additional experiences may include:
  • Program-level data analysis for school improvement initiatives.
  • Participation in research related to learning and executive functioning disorders.
  • Collaboration with professionals across disciplines—including speech-language pathologists, tutors, and psychologists.
Supervision amp; Training Model
We follow a developmental model of supervision, providing intensive support at the beginning of the year and progressively increasing intern autonomy. Interns work closely with multiple members of our diagnostic and student support teams.

This is a hybrid internship with both in-person responsibilities at our St. Louis Park campus and partner schools across the Twin Cities, as well as remote work via videoconferencing.
Postdoctoral opportunities may be available upon completion of the internship.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit a resume or CV and cover letter online. We welcome inquiries about our site and training opportunities.
