Job description

Darigold is seeking a skilled and motivated Tax Accountant to join our team! The Tax Accountant supports tax compliance, reporting and planning activities across multiple tax disciplines. Responsibilities include supporting income tax accounting and compliance, gross receipts and business taxes, sales and use taxes and property tax administration. The Tax Accountant assists with tax reporting, audits, tax planning initiatives and the development and maintenance of tax-related policies and procedures.

Working closely with members of the Tax Department, the Tax Accountant performs analyses, prepares tax-related filings and documentation, supports compliance activities and develops an understanding of applicable tax laws and regulations, accounting principles, business operations and company systems. This position provides the opportunity to gain experience across all areas of taxation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the tax function.

What You Will Do:

  • Supports tax compliance activities by monitoring adherence to tax policies, procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Prepares tax reports and supporting documentation by gathering, validating and compiling monthly, quarterly and annual tax data for income, gross receipts, property and sales/use tax compliance.
  • Evaluates data accuracy and investigates significant fluctuations or variances in tax-related information.
  • Ensures proper recording of tax payments, expenses and liabilities by reconciling general ledger accounts and preparing appropriate accruals.
  • Utilizes and develops proficiency in internal systems and reporting tools to support tax compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Communicates with tax authorities on property tax matters and develops effective professional relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Visits plant facilities and assists with property tax assessments, including supporting tours for appraisers and assessors as needed.
  • Assists with city, state, federal and other tax audits by gathering, consolidating, summarizing and reviewing requested data.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding tax information and tax-related projects.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and supports continuous improvement initiatives within the tax function.
  • Maintains and expands technical tax knowledge, analytical capabilities, communication skills and professional effectiveness through ongoing development.

  What You Will Bring:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 1-2 years of accounting experience required.
  • Tax experience, internship experience or exposure to federal, state, local, sales/use, property or income tax matters preferred.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is a plus but not required.
  • Excel – Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions and data analysis tools.

  • Analytical Skills – Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
