RPG Programmer - Brooklyn, NY
Rainbow Shops is seeking a highly skilled RPG Programmer to support, maintain, and enhance our core ERP systems-primarily Island Pacific-within a dynamic retail environment. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of our enterprise applications and infrastructure, supporting day-to-day user issues, and managing ongoing development and integration projects.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience with RPG programming in an IBM i (iSeries/AS400) environment, a solid understanding of retail business operations, and the ability to work closely with end users, internal IT leadership, and external vendors. Experience with Lawson ERP and eCommerce environments is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide day-to-day support for ERP systems, resolving user-reported issues quickly and efficiently.
• Develop, modify, and maintain applications using RPG (RPG IV, RPG Free, ILE), CL, and embedded SQL on the IBM iSeries platform.
• Collaborate with business users and IT leadership to define requirements, document solutions, and deliver enhancements.
• Work under the direction of the VP of IT and IT Programming Manager to manage approved programming projects and change requests.
• Interface with external consultants and vendors to ensure successful project delivery and support.
• Manage and track assigned projects, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
• Create and maintain system documentation, technical specifications, and change control records.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in RPG programming in an IBM iSeries (AS/400) environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Island Pacific ERP; Lawson ERP experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with i5/OS, iSeries networking, and PC-based environments (Windows, MS Office, Lotus Notes).
• Proven experience supporting systems in a multi-outlet retail chain; eCommerce integration experience is highly desirable.
• Experience using tools and techniques including RLU, SDA, subfile programming, RPG Free Format, ILE, embedded SQL, FTP/SFTP, PGP encryption, overlays/page segments, and Avery label/barcode printers.
Skills:
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem management skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Fluent in customer service and able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Experience with change control/version management systems.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation:
We expect the successful candidate will be offered a base salary in the range of $120,000 to $150,000, based on experience, skillset, and market conditions.
