Job description

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $36,000-$49,000, with an expected starting salary between $38,000-$40,000, based on experience and qualifications.

Eligibility for remote work: This position is required to work onsite at least 3 days per week at Human Kinetics' headquarters in Champaign, IL.

Job Summary:

The Marketing Associate I supports the marketing team in implementation of marketing and publicity campaigns. This includes oversight of promotional copy development, preparing and facilitating projects with the marketing graphic design team, maintaining and updating the website, coordinating email campaigns, and assuming responsibility for other special marketing projects as assigned. The Marketing Associate I may also assist with social media video production and serve as needed as a model for fitness videos.

The Marketing Associate I functions at an Entry/Foundational level in all aspects of the position. See the Marketing Associate leveling document for more details.

Essential Functions:

  1. Set up and regularly update deadlines and task assignments in project scheduling database.
  2. Participate in marketing meetings to gather information about upcoming products, making note of key areas to emphasize in marketing copy.
  3. Manage the copy development process, either by drafting marketing copy or by working with freelance copywriters when needed; formatting copy according to appropriate guidelines; and coordinating the routing and approval process in a timely manner.
  4. Develop, upload, and maintain content on the website, including sections or content that is initially loaded by others. This function includes creating product pages, excerpts, articles, banner ads/promotional images, video clips, and sample pages; making sure all content is appearing properly; and ensuring links are functioning as needed.
  5. Set up and test special promotional offers on the website.
  6. Identify and resolve issues related to products featured on external vendor websites.
  7. Manage standard email campaigns including audience and content selection and coordinate approval process before deployment; serve as second proofer on other campaigns, checking all links and overall consistency.
  8. Lead project implementation process for projects ranging from catalogs to ads (print and digital) by gathering appropriate copy and content, preparing project for submission or creating project as needed, and facilitating routing/proofreading process.
  9. Work cooperatively with marketing managers and marketing graphic designers to create functional and attractive marketing pieces.
  10. Support social media efforts by creating supplemental content and assisting with content posting and advertising as requested by marketing managers.
  11. Support development of video and podcasts as requested, which may include pre- and post-production tasks.
  12. Coordinate special projects as assigned and promptly and efficiently assist with miscellaneous tasks that arise.

Secondary Functions:

  1. Build market-specific knowledge in at least one sector (consumer, academic, and/or professional) and manage tasks and projects that primarily serve that market.
  2. Serve as a model in fitness demonstration videos for social media.

    Skills and qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, business, English, journalism, or another communications-related field required. Knowledge in physical activity fields, kinesiology, and/or exercise science is a plus.
