Job description

OVERVIEW: 

The Housing Program Assistant is responsible to the Housing Program Manager. This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of The Salvation Army Housing Programs. The position works closely with the Resident Service Coordinator, Housing Program Manager, and Director to coordinate program operations, oversee property management functions, collaborate with the Maintenance Department, and organize and facilitate program meetings and related services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collect and record rent payments for Transitional Housing programs
  • Conduct unit inspections to ensure safety, sanitation, and program compliance
  • Assist with applicant phone screenings
  • Enforce program policies and issues corrective actions as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry in Salvation Army databases
  • Assist with maintaining client case files
  • Conduct routine inspections of program properties
  • Communicate regularly with Maintenance Department staff
  • Submit and follow up on maintenance work orders
  • Coordinate unit turnovers with Maintenance and vendors
  • Prepare housing units for move-in, including inventories
  • Maintain program inventory and online registry
  • Facilitate house meetings and promotes community engagement
  • Schedule and organizes program workshops and assists with childcare as needed
  • Collaborate with community agencies and attends community meetings as needed
  • Support and coordinates volunteers and interns under management oversight
  • Responds to housing program emergencies and participates in on-call coverage
  • Provide transportation for participants as needed
  • Assist with holiday programs, Family Night, and alumni activities
  • Provide regular updates to the Housing Program Manager and Director
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • CA Driver’s license (required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent education or work experience (preferred)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Team player and knowledgeable of outside resources
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

EQUIPMENT USED: 

  • Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
