The Manager develops and maintains systems within Spira Care to detect, monitor, prevent, organize, measure, investigate, report, and manage patient adverse events, malpractice claims, incident reports, and other indicators of potential patient harm. The Manager supports organizational efforts to mitigate and reduce risk across Spira Care and each of its Care Centers, manages the incident reporting platform, collaborates with legal and operations functions, and reports to the Director of Enterprise Risk Management.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough internal reviews to respond to patient grievances/complaints, safety concerns, high risk incidents, and compliance issues to mitigate potential risks associated with systems and individuals.
  • Implement, deploy, and manage Spira Care’s incident reporting platform, partnering with cross‑functional teams for a successful launch.
  • Promote reporting processes by educating Spira Care Centers on reporting methods and strategies, and facilitating stakeholder understanding and usage.
  • Proactively evaluate areas of organizational risk through internal assessments and external benchmarking, and implement strategies that promote patient, visitor, and staff safety.
  • Develop trending and reporting tools to identify improvement opportunities and facilitate prevention initiatives.
  • Direct the investigation of all potentially compensable events (preventable adverse events).
  • Establish processes for receiving, documenting, and tracking evaluative data on all program audits, evaluations, internal investigations, complaints, and risk analyses, providing trend data to inform KPI efforts.
  • Periodically update Spira Care’s Risk Management Plan (at least annually).

  • Monitor and take subsequent actions to ensure learning, compliance, and documentation.
  • Analyze statistical reports and advisories that identify risk management and patient safety patterns and trends for leadership.
  • Serve as liaison to external regulatory agencies for patient and physician reporting, event investigation, and response under the direction of the Director of Enterprise Risk Management.

  • Review and evaluate related policies and procedures, recommending revisions as needed.
  • Create new policies for approval as required.
  • Participate in educational and communication initiatives to promote risk reduction and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Annually evaluate the risk management and patient safety program for improvement opportunities.
  • Initiate partnerships with colleagues across Spira Care to drive a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk identification.

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry guidance affecting healthcare risk management and patient safety, including OSHA, HIPAA, provider licensure laws, and state and federal reporting requirements.
