About the Data Engineer II - Analytics Position:

Within the analytics department, the Data Engineer will aid teammates by using various methods to transform raw data into useful data systems, preparing data for modeling, and assisting in maintaining the infrastructure used for analytics. The Data Engineer will also be responsible for assessing and reporting on data quality and striving for efficiencies by aligning data systems with business goals. This position entails ensuring the Business Intelligence team and the business owners have valid and reliable data available for consumption by internal and external clients.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon's corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Data Engineer II - Analytics – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, maintain, and improve existing production data pipelines and processes
  • Build new reliable, scalable, efficient ETL processes extracting data from multiple sources
  • Support analytical teams, tools, and programs using Data Warehouse products
  • Automate data pipelines, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Participate in code review, working to identify, debug, and version control code changes
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver quality data products
  • Collaborate with team members on several projects at once
  • Employ strong analytical and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Curate data for advanced analytics and data science
  • Ensure data accuracy, quality, security, integrity, and reliability
  • Maintain documentation of data, ETLs, processes, repositories, issues, etc.

Data Engineer II - Analytics – Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced SQL skills and knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS)
  • Experience with data warehousing and pipelines (ETLs, job scheduling, maintenance, monitoring, etc.)
  • Knowledge of relational database design
  • Experience with SQL performance tuning, role-based access, indexing
  • Experience using git version control
  • Agile software development best practices
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organization skills
  • Experience supporting data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI)

Data Engineer II - Analytics – Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud-based solutions (Snowflake, AWS cloud services)
  • Experience with healthcare claims data
