LOCATION:Salt Lake City, Utah

START DATE:Fall 2026

DURATION: 3 months,10 hours (minimum) - 20 hours per week

BACKGROUND:Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitationassistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.Domestically, our 26offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

The International Rescue Committee in Salt Lake City (IRC-SLC) Health Programs promotephysical and psychologicalwellbeingbyfacilitatingaccess to healthcare services and providingeducation and advocacy.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:

IRC-SLC Health Programs promote physical and psychosocial wellbeing by ensuring access to healthcare services and providing culturallyappropriate, strength-based, educational programming.

The Health Programinternwill provide direct supportby assisting in identifying clients' needs and providing support, scheduling appointments, teaching Navigating the Healthcare system classes,facilitating mental health screenings,organizing groups, transporting clients to medical appointments, referring clients to community resources,and other special projects.

COMMITMENT:10 - 20 hours per week

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in weekly health program meetings and weekly supervision

  • Assistclients in accessing health servicesand resourcesand gaining self-sufficiency.

  • Enter and track datain systems.

  • Provide public transit orientations to clients or transport clientstoonehealth appointment weekly.

  • Strengthen relationships with partner organizations and identify improved avenues for treatmentand clients' success.

  • Identifyareas of growth and development forIRC-SLC's healthprogram andassistin program development goals.

  • Other, as assigned and/ordeterminedbyHealth Program Supervisor.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Gain professional experience working in the public health sector.

Gain skills in assessing the public health needs of different communities.

Gain public speaking experience throughfacilationofhealtheducationto clients.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Backgroundand/or current study in public health,health promotion, social work,psychology,orotherrelated field,

  • Experience working with diverse populations.

  • Motivated, flexible,fast learner, andable to work independently. Self-starter qualities are necessaryin this role.

  • Strong communicationskills and ability to work as part of a team.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Fluency inadditionallanguagespreferred.

  • Proficientcomputer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, and willingness to drive clientshighly prioritized

  • Mustpassa requiredbackground check.

Intern will report to: Whitney Nguyen, Health Program Coordinator.

This is an unpaid volunteer position. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available.
