TSMC Arizona is looking for a Facilities Mechanical Engineer to join our 5-nanometer fab, located in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. As an engineer for the Facilities team, you will demonstrate a strong sense of mechanical ability and enthusiasm and will possess an attitude that embodies our core values - Integrity, Commitment, Innovation and Customer Trust.
The Facilities Mechanical Engineer will focus on optimizing cost efficiency, smart operations and green manufacturing to build an innovative and reliable foundation to manage facilities operations for an advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility.
To this end, you will contribute to achieving energy efficiency by developing technologies such as green building design/maintenance, utilities conservation, material reduction, recycling and reclamation, and greenhouse gas control and reduction.
Responsibilities
  • Designing, building and operating a cleanroom, including air flow control, temperature and humidity control, and air molecules monitoring and control in order to provide an ultra-clean environment for 5nm and beyond fab production.
  • Designing, building and operating chilled water systems including chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, rotating equipment (motors, fans) and water-cooled air handling units.
  • Designing, building and operating general exhaust units, wet scrubbing unit, thermal oxidizer units, and local process air abatement units.
  • Working with design or project management organizations on large-scale designs and projects.
  • Conducting construction administration and site observations.
  • Running daily system operation and operation data analysis.
  • Monitoring and managing utilities distribution, including power, steam, natural gas, water, compressed gases, instrumentation and control.
  • Providing routine system preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Additional duties based on business needs, including ERT
  • If hired for this position, you may be required to participate in and perform Emergency Response Team (ERT) duties as an essential part of the role. These duties may include responding to F21 incidents, such as medical emergencies, chemical spills, fire response, or addressing any other disruptions to business operations. If you are selected by your manager to become a part of ERT, participation is mandatory.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC/R Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related technical fields. A Ph.D. or master's degree is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to actively listen, ask questions and understand the key takeaways from conversations with diverse colleagues.
  • An understanding of heat transfer, thermal management and fluid dynamics design and a general knowledge of heat and thermal conventional manufacturing techniques.
  • Shift work and emergency overtime are required.
  • Familiarity with vibration analysis, air molecules and chemical analysis is preferred.
  • A team player that can multitask and thrive in a very dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • 1+ years of work and or internship experience is preferred
  • Experience with mechanical systems operations in the semiconductor manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • An understanding of HVAC, plumbing and building codes (e.g., ASHRAE, IBC, IECC, IMC, and IPC) is required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is required.

Physical Requirements:
    • May spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.
    • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs and to adjust heavy objects.
    • The position will come in contact with sharp, hot, and cold equipment, and parts.
    • Must be medically qualified to wear a personal respirator and other PPE.
    • Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with industrial chemical operations, exposure to the sounds associated with powered tools and industrial equipment.
    • Must have the ability to safely climb ladders, and work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs, or platforms, and the ability to work in confined spaces.

Shift expectations:
  • Standard shift will be M-F 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM.
  • All Facilities Mechanical Engineers may be required to work a Compressed Work Week (4-day on, 3-day off, 3-day on, 4-day off), and may be required to work night or swing shift on a rotational basis.
  • Scheduled night shifts and weekend on-call rotations in a 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environment.
