Job description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, and other specimens.
  • Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.
  • Ensures operation of analyzers, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests by Providers.
  • Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects the Laboratory by keeping information confidential.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s / Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor’s Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
  • One year in a clinical laboratory (Completion of an internship program at a qualified institution is acceptable).
  • License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician by the State of New York based on the on the Special Provision of the Regulations of the Commissioner in accordance with the Clinical Laboratory Technology Practice Act.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • ASCP registry preferred.
  • Multitasking abilities and flexibility are a plus
  • Clinical Lab Technologist / Technician -NYS Licensed
