The Genetics Lab supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Genetic Laboratory Department and ensures compliance with all the regulatory and accreditations requirements. Supervises, trains and assures competency of personnel. Performs new test validations. Perform routine genetic tests when needed. Assists in the troubleshooting of problems with tests, instruments, and sample delivery. Reviews tests, performance and maintains quality control records. Maintains records of instruments, failures, calibrations, and repairs. Prepares summaries of quality assurance records. Works with care centers to ensure appropriate sample delivery and appropriate test requisitions. Performs laboratory tasks and other functions independently. Oversees and works towards improving overall genetic department workflow as it relates to quality, efficiency, and safety.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate daily testing and maintenance activities for the Genetic staff.
  • Monitors daily testing and back up as needed for molecular procedures to include but not limited to Plasma Isolation, DNA or cfDNA extraction, PCR techniques, PCR clean up, Barcoding, Dilutions, and Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on patient safety.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality assurance standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills along with mentorship and evaluations of Genetic personnel.
  • Oversee the maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, with detailed records.
  • Schedules for routine preventative maintenance and all other certifications for equipment.
  • Orders and maintains laboratory inventory and maintains lot to lot testing records.
  • Treat all team members and other departments in a courteous manner.
  • Review and verify genetic testing procedures, results, and documentation for accuracy.
  • Participates in inspections and audits by regulatory agencies.
  • Perform required compliance tasks.
  • Prepare for CAP and other inspections.
  • Participate in other projects and perform other duties as needed.
  • Responsible for overall performance of the Genetics department.

Qualifications
  • Must have a bachelor's degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Molecular Techniques
  • ASCP or equivalent certification in Molecular Pathology required
  • Florida State Licensure is not required
  • Leadership and team management skills
  • Basic computer and Laboratory information skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance
