Job description


Financial Risk Oversight (FRO) provides credible, value-added challenges to first-line activities and serves as a sounding board to enhance financial risk management across the enterprise.
FRO reviews, monitors, analyzes, effectively challenges, and reports on first-line financial risk management activities. It plays a role in risk appetite setting, risk identification, and framework design.
FRO's key activities include:
  • Large Program Assessments - Low-frequency, comprehensive reviews of large first-line financial risk management programs designed to assist business unit owners with incrementally evolving risk management frameworks.
  • Ad-Hoc Reviews - Independent update/change reviews and challenges to existing or the introduction of new processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Recurring Challenges - Regular/frequent reviews and risk metric reporting (e.g., Board KRIs), assumptions, risk appetite, and general financial risk management activities (e.g., investment or hedging decisions, pricing updates, etc.)
  • Data/Analytics - Leverage internal credit union data for analytics that offer additional detail on financial risk, including supplementing and supporting the team's large program assessments, ad-hoc reviews, and recurring challenges

Project - Business Forecast (Loan Originations) Sensitivity Analysis:
The Summer Associate will complete an end-to-end analysis related to the sensitivity of loan originations to different rate environments for use in the credit union's Net Interest Income (NII) sensitivity framework. At the conclusion of the analysis, the Summer Associate will socialize relevant findings with first line financial risk teams and help assess the feasibility, timeline, and impact of implementing the proposed loan sensitivities into the NII sensitivity framework.
The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2027 and ending in August 2027. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the research for and development of specialized risk assessment scopes
  • Gather, synthesize, and organize financial data; present conclusions and risk mitigation, remediation and process improvement solutions to management
  • Contribute to the administration of specialized risk assessment and testing lifecycles of business activities, processes, policies and procedures for operational effectiveness and compliance with regulatory requirements, federal and state laws, and Navy Federal's quality control standards, policies and procedures
  • Support and participate in team projects and initiatives

Qualifications
  • Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Commerce, Data Science/Engineering, or related field
  • Familiarity with SQL language and/or Power BI/Tableau software
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of finance and banking concepts
  • Familiarity with effective project management skills
