Job description

Financial Analyst
Department: Buckstop
Employment Type: Contract to hire
Location: Washington, DC
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 / year
Description
About Buckstop Industries
Founded in 2025, Buckstop is building the intelligence layer for the circular economy. Our mission is to create a sustainable end-of-life for every electronic device on Earth, transforming yesterday's waste into tomorrow's resources.
We're reimagining how enterprises manage electronic assets by creating a platform that identifies, tracks, and maximizes the residual value of devices at scale. In a fragmented industry where value is lost through layers of intermediaries, Buckstop provides a single source of truth and execution.
Our founding team brings together leaders from manufacturing, logistics, reverse supply chains, energy, mining, and technology who have experienced the industry's challenges firsthand and are building the future of asset recovery and circular commerce.
Your assets. One platform. Maximum value. Full stop.
The Opportunity
Buckstop is seeking a highly analytical and entrepreneurial Financial Analyst to join our founding team. This is not a traditional finance role.
We're looking for someone who enjoys building systems, creating processes from scratch, and partnering directly with leadership to help shape the financial infrastructure of a rapidly growing company. Experience in the energy sector is preferred.
You will support financial planning, accounting operations, tax compliance, customer project analysis, automation initiatives, and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate combines strong financial fundamentals with a startup mindset and thrives in environments where ambiguity is an opportunity rather than a challenge.

  • Help establish the culture, standards, and best practices of a high-growth startup
  • Work cross-functionally with leadership, customers, and external stakeholders

What We're Looking For

  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills
  • Understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and tax regulations
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
  • Experience building reports, dashboards, and financial processes
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA certification (or active pursuit of CPA)

  • Experience at an early-stage startup or venture-backed company
  • Experience supporting fundraising, investor relations, or strategic finance initiatives
  • Familiarity with automation tools, financial systems, and business intelligence platforms
  • Experience creating scalable finance and accounting processes from the ground up
  • Experience in the energy, minerals, recycling or commodities sector

Who You Are
  • You have a founder mentality and naturally take ownership
  • You prepare thoroughly before execution and sweat the details
  • You enjoy solving messy, ambiguous problems
