Research Assistant (TEMPORARY - part-time 17.5 hours/week)

This temporary Research Assistant role is a hands-on, graduate-level research opportunity to help bring a high-impact breast cancer screening adherence study to completion. The position focuses on synthesizing evidence, generating publishable findings, and translating research into meaningful public health insights. This role is ideal for a recent MPH graduate who is motivated, detail-oriented, with experience in healthcare research, and is eager to enhance their research portfolio while contributing to an important area of cancer prevention and population health.

What you'll do in this position:

  • Literature Review: Conduct database searches (e.g., PubMed, Scopus) and identify relevant studies on breast cancer screening adherence.
  • Study Screening: Review titles, abstracts, and full-text articles using established inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Study Selection Verification: Collaborate with the research team to confirm study eligibility and ensure consistency in selection decisions.
  • Data Extraction: Extract and record study data, outcomes, and key findings using standardized tools and protocols.
  • Data Management: Organize, tabulate, and maintain research data, documentation, and study records to support transparency and reproducibility.
  • Data Analysis & Synthesis: Assist with qualitative and quantitative analysis, including summarizing findings and interpreting results within a public health context.
  • Manuscript Development: Contribute to drafting, editing, and preparing manuscripts in accordance with academic and journal standards.
  • Publication Support: Assist with journal submission, manuscript revisions, and responses to peer-review feedback.
  • Research Collaboration: Participate in project meetings, provide progress updates, coordinate with team members, and support ethical conduct of research activities.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Master's degree (MPH) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • At least 2 years in public health or healthcare research (university research project, internship, or research-focused coursework) that includes literature review or data analysis

Preferred

  • 2+ years of academic or professional research experience, especially experience contributing to a systematic literature review, scoping review, or meta-analysis in a public health or healthcare context.
  • Experience with cancer prevention or screening adherence research is a plus.
  • Experience preparing scientific manuscripts (e.g., co-authorship on a journal article or thesis project) or handling research data independently are highly desirable.
