How much do internship cheminformatics jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 11, 2026, the average hourly pay for internship cheminformatics in the United States is $15.54, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $12.50 and $17.55 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are internship positions in cheminformatics?

Internship positions in cheminformatics are temporary roles, often for students or recent graduates, where individuals gain hands-on experience working with chemical data and computational tools. Interns may assist in analyzing molecular structures, developing software for chemical research, or supporting drug discovery projects. These internships provide practical exposure to the intersection of chemistry, computer science, and data analysis, helping participants build valuable skills for future careers in research, pharmaceuticals, or informatics.

What is the difference between Internship Cheminformatics vs Laboratory Technician?

AspectInternship CheminformaticsLaboratory Technician
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or holding a degree in chemistry, bioinformatics, or related fieldsAssociate's or bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences or related field
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, pharmaceutical companies, or biotech firms focusing on data analysis and chemical informaticsClinical, research, or industrial labs performing experiments and sample analysis
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in biotech, pharma, and research institutions for data-driven chemical analysisCommon in healthcare, manufacturing, and research sectors for sample processing

Internship Cheminformatics focuses on data analysis and chemical informatics, often involving software tools and computational methods, while Laboratory Technicians perform hands-on experimental work in lab settings. Both roles are essential in scientific research but differ in their focus and skill requirements.

What types of projects can an intern expect to work on during a Cheminformatics internship?

As a Cheminformatics intern, you will typically engage in projects involving the analysis and interpretation of chemical data, such as designing and optimizing molecular databases, developing computational models for predicting chemical properties, or supporting drug discovery efforts using software tools. Interns often collaborate closely with computational chemists, data scientists, and laboratory researchers, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard cheminformatics software and programming languages. This role provides valuable exposure to cross-disciplinary teamwork and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful scientific research, setting a solid foundation for future career growth in computational chemistry or data-driven drug development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Cheminformatics, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Internship Cheminformatics, you generally need a solid background in chemistry, data analysis, and familiarity with cheminformatics concepts, often supported by coursework in computational chemistry or related fields. Experience with technical tools such as Python, R, molecular modeling software, and cheminformatics libraries like RDKit is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and presenting findings. These skills and qualifications enable interns to efficiently analyze chemical data, contribute to research projects, and support innovation in drug discovery or chemical informatics.

Job description

Role & Responsibilities
As an Intern in the BIOVIA MARIE Scientific Virtual Companion team, you will contribute to the development of agentic AI solutions and machine learning capabilities on Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform and BIOVIA's Pipeline Pilot AI platform. Your work will empower scientists and researchers to solve complex challenges in cheminformatics, medical imaging, and scientific data processing.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop AI Agents & Workflows:
Design, implement, and optimize intelligent agents for scientific applications (e.g., chemistry, biology) using Pipeline Pilot and 3DEXPERIENCE. Build scalable, user-friendly workflows with graphical interfaces.
  • Machine Learning Innovation:
Research, develop, and deploy state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms for image analysis, tabular data processing, and scientific applications. Explore federated learning, continuous learning, and model optimization.
  • Collaboration & Product Development:
Work with software engineers, product managers, QA teams, and customer-facing teams to deliver high-quality solutions. Participate in design, testing, and validation of AI/ML workflows.
  • Quality & Automation:
Contribute to automated testing to ensure robustness and reliability of new functionalities. Support workflow automation and AI-driven capabilities in Pipeline Pilot.
  • Project Focus Areas:
Potential projects include medical imaging quality control (e.g., MRI validation), deep learning model optimization, image annotation tools, privacy-preserving AI, and scientific workflow automation.

Qualifications
Education
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Chemistry, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Must remain actively enrolled in an accredited university for the duration of the internship.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Technical Skills & Experience
  • Required:
    • Proficiency in Python programming.
    • Experience with agentic AI, LLMs, and AI libraries (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph).
    • Familiarity with machine learning/deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
