Job description

SUMMARY
This position reports directly to the Safety and Environmental Manager. Responsible for advising and assisting KSC in maintaining regulatory compliance to achieve world class performance in safety and environmental health. Assists Safety and Environmental Manager with training, audits, reports and permits. This is a highly visible position in an organization that includes safety as a core value.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Conducts OSHA, EPA, and DOT required training that includes but is not limited to Forklift, Hazardous Waste, Spill Prevention, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Fire Safety, Ergonomics, PPE, Hazard Communication and Lockout/Tagout
Maintains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) inventory
Performs inspections on emergency equipment including fire extinguishers and eyewash stations
Utilizes lean manufacturing and Kaizen techniques to identify potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions
Performs industrial hygiene monitoring including noise levels and air quality
Assists in incident and close call investigations and recommends corrective actions
Assists in maintaining environmental permits including air quality (Synthetic Minor), storm water and industrial discharge
Assists in Hazardous Waste compliance including area inspections, reviewing waste profiles and coordinating pickups
Performs safety and environmental audits and tracks open items to completion
Researches, recommends, and maintains inventory of PPE
Prepares safety/environmental information for KPI reports, job bids and award applications

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health or related field, and previous work or internship experience preferably in a manufacturing and/or construction environment. Previous education and / or certification(s) should include industrial hygiene, indoor/outdoor air quality, ergonomics/human factors, environmental toxicology, and epidemiology, management and occupation safety (OSHA regulations).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific or technical journals, financials and/or legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries, complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to present information to top management, public groups and/or boards.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to manage and successfully meet goals is required. Must be tactful and able to work with a diverse group of Associates and outside resources. Must have knowledge of Local, State and Federal safety and environmental regulations, to include EPA, OSHA, DEQ, RCRA, and others.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
