Our Railway Engineering discipline comprises Civil Engineers who plan, design, and prepare construction documents for a variety of rail clients. Design includes rail alignments and geometrics, grading plans, drainage and utility plans, pavement markings, construction details, erosion control, and construction staging and phasing. Work is typically done in MicroStation OpenRoads. AutoCAD with Civil3D is used for select projects. The Railway Engineering discipline also supports construction management efforts in the field.

Key Responsibilities: Railway Engineering interns will be expected to perform the following key responsibilities with supervision and assistance from a Hanson Professional Engineer:

  • Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Gathering and/or providing data for the preparation of engineering or environmental reports and studies
  • Performing and/or reviewing calculations or reports
  • Utilizing engineering software packages such as MicroStation
  • Conducting field investigations to gather information
  • Documenting and/or observing construction operations
  • Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; attending meetings; and maintaining records.
  • Potential opportunities include monitoring contractor activities, preparing reports, and assisting with reviewing contractor invoices.

Qualifications:

  • The intern must be actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering programor a relevant field of study.
  • The ideal candidate will have completed their sophomore year by the time of the internship and be enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university.

Key requirements are listed but not limited to the following:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver's license

The hourly range for this position is $21 - $26 per hour.
