Job description

Description
The Paulus Advanced Retinal Imaging and Laser Laboratory is seeking a motivated postdoctoral research fellow to perform eye research of retinal imaging technologies and treatments for eye disease.
Our Advanced Retinal Imaging and Laser Laboratory is a dynamic, diverse, multidisciplinary group dedicated to improving the vision of patients suffering from eye diseases through applying biomedical engineering, biodesign, lasers, photonics, optics, AI, ultrasound, physics, nanoparticles, and biochemistry. We are developing novel multimodal retinal imaging systems, laser therapies, and long-lasting sustained therapeutics. Our team includes postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduates, medical students, residents, and fellows. As a postdoctoral research fellow, you will work as a team to perform research, design and build high resolution optical imaging and laser systems, perform animal care and handling, present results at premier international meetings, write manuscripts for publication, and ensure appropriate documentation and regulatory compliance. Our lab performs preclinical work in animal models and then seeks to rapidly translate the new technology to humans to improve the sight of patients. This position offers an opportunity to advance academic or industry career goals through rigorous research, high-level publication, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team. Professor Paulus is fully dedicated to the long-term career of each member of the lab and thus performs active mentorship to ensure that your postdoctoral research fellowship lays the foundation for your future career and goals.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be motivated, energetic, collaborative, and caring and will have:
* Laboratory research experience, preferably in areas related to biomedical engineering, optical engineering, photonics, photoacoustics, ultrasound, nanoparticle, AI, imaging, or biochemistry.
* Experience designing, setting up, and aligning high resolution optical imaging systems
* Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret findings
* Lead and execute research projects, from conception to publication, ensuring high scientific standards.
* Experience in writing abstracts and presenting at conferences
* Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, and present research results at conferences.
* Prepare and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong organizational skills
* Ability to work independently and in a team.
* Experience with ensuring regulatory compliance
* Experience working with research teams
* Experience working in vivo research, including animal care and handling, particularly of rabbits and mice

About Johns Hopkins University

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Gilman believed that teaching and research go hand in hand—that success in one depends on success in the other—and that a modern university must do both well. He also believed that sharing our knowledge and discoveries would help make the world a better place. In 145 years, we haven’t strayed from that vision. This is still a destination for excellent, ambitious scholars and a world leader in teaching and research. Distinguished professors mentor students in the arts and music, humanities, social and natural sciences, engineering, international studies, education, business, and the health professions. Those same faculty members, along with their colleagues at the university’s Applied Physics Laboratory, have made us the nation’s leader in federal research and development funding every year since 1979. That’s a fitting distinction for America’s first research university, a place that has revolutionized higher education in the U.S. and continues to bring knowledge and discoveries to the world.
