  • Hours: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM

Job Description
Exciting opportunity to join Endeavor Health in the cardiac ICU. The purpose of this position is to provide high-quality, appropriate, and cost-effective critical care to patients in the Cardiac ICU, with a primary focus on post-cardiac surgery and complex cardiovascular disease. This role offers a highly collaborative and well-supported care model.
Under the direction of the collaborating physician, provides care to patients in the cardiac ICU at Edward Hospital. Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations, orders imaging, lab tests and diagnostic procedures and interprets results. Instructs patients on the prescribed therapeutic regimen and pre/post operative instructions. Maintains records and writes progress notes on status, treatments and procedures. Follows patients through their course of treatment in the hospital setting. Collaborates with physicians and the health care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies as appropriate. Demonstrates evidence-based practice. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice in the specialty. Assesses the learning needs of patients and families across the continuum. Employs strategies, interventions and teaching to promote, maintain, and improve health. Provides comprehensive health assessments, formulates differential diagnoses, and prescribes treatments under the protocol in the direct management of acute and chronic illness and disease. Works autonomously and in interdisciplinary teams as resources and consultants. Positively contributes to safety outcomes and promoting high quality patient experience. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of service line goals. Supports the strategic plan of the organization. Adheres to all Endeavor Health policies and procedures.
About the Cardiac ICU
  • 22-bed Cardiac-Neuro ICU (separate Neuro-ICU service)
  • Average daily census: 12-14 patients
  • Primary patient population includes:
    • Post-open heart cardiac surgery patients
    • Acute coronary syndromes, including STEMI
    • Post-cardiac procedural patients
    • Advanced heart failure
    • Electrophysiology-related admissions
    • Other complex cardiovascular disease states
  • The Cardiac ICU is co-located with a Neuro ICU that is staffed and managed by a separate dedicated Neuro ICU team

Qualifications:
  • License: Advanced Practice Licensure (APN) or Physician Assistant (PA) Licensure in the State of IL required; Federal DEA and Illinois Controlled Substance License required
  • Education: Completion of master's level program in specialty area
  • Certification: BLS/CPR certification required. ACLS certification required
  • Experience: Critical care experience as an APP preferred. Willing to consider new graduate ACNPs with prior critical care experience as an RN.
