Job description

Help homeowners imagine a better way to liveand lead the team that brings it to life.

Design is the act of imagining a world that you want to live in and then going and making a piece of that world.

That's what we do for our clients.

At Lamont Bros., we help our clients imagine a better way to live, then transform their homes into a reflection of that vision.

We're looking for someone who believes design is about far more than selecting finishes or producing drawings. You believe great design begins by deeply understanding people, asking better questions, uncovering possibilities, and helping others see what they couldn't imagine on their own.

If you're passionate about thoughtful design, love working directly with homeowners, and enjoy leading talented people toward a shared vision, this may be the most rewarding role of your career.

About Lamont Bros.

Lamont Bros. is one of Portland's leading design-build remodeling firms, specializing in thoughtful, high-quality home transformations.

Our clients trust us with one of the most significant investments they'll makenot simply because we build exceptional projects, but because we help them make exceptional decisions.

We combine thoughtful design, disciplined execution, and an extraordinary client experience to create homes that are as personal as they are beautiful.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Residential Design Advisor/Design Consultant, you'll become the creative leader of each project long before construction begins.

You'll help homeowners articulate their goals, shape the vision for their home, and confidently move from possibility to reality.

You'll also lead the collaborative process that turns that vision into a successful project.

Working alongside the rest of the design team, project managers, engineers, and trade partners, you'll ensure everyone is aligned around a common purpose while serving as the client's primary advocate and trusted advisor.

You'll spend your days leading thoughtful conversations, building trust, guiding design decisions, aligning multidisciplinary teams, and helping remarkable projects come to life.

Success in this role comes from earning trust, leading thoughtful conversations, and helping clients confidently invest in exceptional design.

What You'll Do

Every Design Advisor leads clients and projects through five core responsibilities.

Discover

Develop a deep understanding of the client's goals, lifestyle, values, and aspirations.

Ask thoughtful questions that uncover opportunities beyond the project they've described and build the trust that leads to a signed Design Retainer.

Envision

Help clients imagine a home that better supports the way they want to live.

Challenge assumptions, explore possibilities, collaborate with internal designers, and guide clients toward a thoughtful Design Vision they enthusiastically approve.

Align

Bring clarity to complexity.

Keep the client's vision, project scope, investment, and expectations aligned while coordinating designers, consultants, and internal team members around a shared direction.

Lead

Lead the preconstruction team through the design process.

Coordinate internal designers, engineers, project managers, specialty consultants, and clients to ensure thoughtful decisions become buildable solutions without losing sight of the original vision.

Your role is to create alignment, maintain momentum, resolve challenges, and ensure the project is ready for a successful transition into construction.

Influence

Create the kind of experience clients enthusiastically recommend to their friends.

Contribute to Lamont Bros.' reputation through exceptional client leadership, portfolio-worthy projects, educational content, community involvement, and a commitment to continually improving how we design and deliver remarkable homes.

Who Thrives in This Role

The best Design Advisors are naturally curious.

They listen before they speak.

They enjoy helping people make important decisions.

They're comfortable leading conversations, facilitating collaboration, and guiding clients through complexity.

They're equally energized by thoughtful design, outstanding client experiences, and ambitious business goals.

They're designers at heart, leaders by instinct, and professionals who understand that trust is earned through expertise, honesty, and follow-through.

Compensation

This is a client-facing leadership role with significant earning potential.

More than half of total compensation is performance-based because Design Advisors have a direct influence on the projects we earn and the value we create for our clients.

The right person is excited by that opportunity.

You believe exceptional work deserves exceptional rewards. You enjoy taking ownership of outcomes and want your compensation to reflect the trust you build, the projects you lead, and the results you achieve.

Preferred Experience

Successful candidates often come from backgrounds such as:

  • Residential architecture
  • Residential design
  • Design-build remodeling
  • Luxury custom homes
  • High-end kitchen and bath design
  • Interior architecture

Experience in residential remodeling or residential design is required.

Why This Role Matters

The homes we design will shape the way our clients live for yearsoften decades.

The conversations you lead will influence not only the spaces we create, but the memories families make within them.

If you believe design has that kind of impactand you'd like to spend your career helping people imagine a better future while leading talented teams to build itwe'd love to meet you.
