Job description

Job Summary

Position Title: Sustainability Master of Business Administration (SMBA) Graduate Program Business Faculty, Tenure Track.

The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington invites applicants for a full‑time, regular (tenure‑track) faculty position effective September 2027 to teach in and create curriculum for the new SMBA program. Courses may include sustainable business development & design, sustainability assessment and reporting, environmental/ecological economics, triple‑bottom line accounting, carbon accounting, data analysis and AI, sustainable supply chain management, marketing, tribal business, and eco‑/sustainable entrepreneurship. Faculty will also support master’s capstone work in the program.

Job Expectations
  • Teach 4‑ and 6‑credit SMBA graduate courses, including some team‑taught offerings and graduate capstone work.
  • Offer courses primarily online with availability for hybrid or in‑person modalities.
  • Conduct most synchronous instruction in evenings or weekends.
  • Utilize best pedagogical practices for online teaching and develop curriculum accordingly.
  • Maintain reliable internet connectivity and proficiency with LMS and institutional technology platforms.
  • Provide consistent and regular office hours outside of class time.
  • Write narrative evaluations for ~30 students per quarter in each class, supported by learning and teaching commons resources.
  • Advise students on learning processes and career goals throughout the program.
  • Sponsor individual study and internships.
  • Support development of long‑term partnerships with organizations for student projects.
  • Serve on governance assignments or committees, including admissions, policy review, community outreach, program evaluation, student advising, alumni relations, internship coordination, advisory board liaison, grant and scholarship review, student activities, community service, and other service as needed.
  • Engage in civic and intellectual life of the community.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, teach, and assess course curriculum aligned with SMBA mission and vision.
  • Provide faculty support for capstone projects and research initiatives.
  • Participate in college‑wide teams and initiatives promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Contribute to sustainability scholarship through research, consulting, or professional work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MBA or PhD in Business Management, Sustainability, or related field.
  • At least two years of college‑level teaching within the last five years.
  • Demonstrated experience in research, consulting, and/or professional work in sustainability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional or research experience in sustainable business development & design, sustainability assessment and reporting, environmental/ecological economics, triple‑bottom line accounting, carbon accounting, data analysis and AI, sustainable supply chain management, marketing, economic development for tribal nations, eco‑/sustainable entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, or community (social) impact.
  • At least one year of graduate‑level teaching experience focusing on sustainability.
  • Experience teaching online.
  • Experience working with diverse and traditionally underserved populations.
Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment, persons hired must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of beginning work. The college will verify the accuracy of this declaration with current and past employers; inaccurate information will result in disqualification and may be grounds for termination.

Visa Sponsorship

Visa sponsorship may be available for this position, contingent upon institutional approval and compliance with federal immigration regulations. The college will not consider an employer‑sponsored visa if the petition is subject to the $100,000 payment required by the September 21, 2025 Presidential Proclamation.
