Internship Drone Deploy information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Internship Drone Deploy, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Internship at DroneDeploy, you typically need foundational knowledge in drone technology, mapping, and data analysis, often supported by studies in engineering, GIS, or computer science. Familiarity with DroneDeploy software, GIS platforms, and possibly FAA Part 107 certification for drone operation is advantageous. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help interns stand out in collaborative and innovative environments. These skills ensure accurate data collection, successful project execution, and effective teamwork in the rapidly evolving drone industry.

What is an Internship Drone Deploy?

An Internship Drone Deploy refers to a temporary position, typically for students or recent graduates, at a company that specializes in drone technology or utilizes DroneDeploy software. Interns in this role may help with drone flight operations, data collection, mapping, and analysis using DroneDeploy’s platform. The internship provides hands-on experience in drone technology, GIS mapping, and data processing, and can be valuable for those interested in fields like agriculture, construction, or surveying. Responsibilities may include assisting with flight planning, data processing, and report generation under the supervision of experienced professionals.

What is the difference between Internship Drone Deploy vs Drone Operations Technician?

Internship Drone Deploy roles typically focus on learning drone software and gaining industry experience, often in a training environment. Drone Operations Technicians perform hands-on drone flights, maintenance, and data collection in various industries. While both roles involve drones, internships are entry-level training positions, whereas technicians are operational professionals with technical certifications.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during an internship at DroneDeploy?

As an intern at DroneDeploy, you'll typically get hands-on experience with real-world projects involving drone software development, data analysis, or customer support, depending on your background. Interns often collaborate closely with engineers and product managers, contributing to features that improve aerial mapping, 3D modeling, or workflow automation. You may also assist with testing new drone functionalities, analyzing aerial imagery, or developing user-facing documentation. This exposure helps you build a strong foundation in drone technology and software, while working in an agile, team-oriented environment.

Job description

Drone Systems Engineering Intern

Location: Lafayette, LA (Preferred)
Type: Internship (Part-Time or Full-Time)
     About DMR Technologies

DMR Technologies designs and manufactures advanced unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) serving agriculture, public safety, critical infrastructure, and defense. Our products combine mechanical engineering, electronics, embedded systems, software, manufacturing, and autonomous flight into complete solutions built in Louisiana. We’re seeking a Drone Systems Engineering Intern who enjoys building things, solving problems, and learning across multiple engineering disciplines.
      What You'll Do

As a Drone Systems Engineering Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting the design, assembly, testing, and deployment of next-generation unmanned aircraft systems.
Projects may include:
  • Assisting with the design and development of drone platforms
  • Building and testing prototype aircraft
  • Supporting mechanical, electrical, and software integration
  • Assisting with flight testing and data collection
  • Troubleshooting hardware and system-level issues
  • Supporting manufacturing process improvements
  • Assisting with CAD models, engineering documentation, and BOM updates
  • Integrating sensors, payloads, cameras, communications equipment, and accessories
  • Supporting internal software tools, automation, or AI-powered engineering workflows
  • Working alongside engineering, production, and flight operations teams
No two weeks are the same. Interns are encouraged to contribute ideas, solve problems, and take ownership of meaningful projects.
   Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working with tools and hands-on equipment
  • Curious, self-motivated, and eager to learn
   Bonus Experience

Experience with any of the following is a plus:
  • CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Electronics and soldering
  • Embedded systems or microcontrollers
  • JavaScript, Python, or C++
  • React or web application development
  • AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.)
  • Robotics or autonomous systems
  • 3D printing
  • Drone building or FPV experience
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
   What We're Looking For

We care less about checking every box and more about finding builders. The ideal candidate enjoys taking things apart, figuring out how they work, improving them, and building something even better.
   Why DMR?

You'll work directly with engineers, technicians, manufacturing, software developers, and company leadership while contributing to products that are deployed in the real world—not hypothetical classroom projects. You’ll leave with experience spanning engineering, manufacturing, software, testing, and product development that few internships can offer.
