Job description

Xcimer Energy leverages decades of research in inertial fusion energy (IFE) combined with innovative engineering and manufacturing approaches. Our mission is to deploy fusion power plants at scale to meet global decarbonization goals. Xcimer has assembled a team of leaders across fusion science, materials, and manufacturing with a strong track record of execution. Backed by leading investors, Xcimer is uniquely positioned to deliver clean, reliable fusion energy.
As a Process Engineer in the Materials & Process Engineering Department, you will work closely with our capacitor manufacturing team to develop, optimize, and scale manufacturing processes critical to Xcimer's fusion systems. This role is hands-on and execution-driven, spanning process definition, testing, data analysis, and integration of new processes into an active manufacturing line. We are looking for our engineers to apply their technical expertise, problem solving skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact the future of energy!
Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and scale manufacturing processes for capacitor production, with a focus on coatings, materials integration, and process robustness.
  • >
  • Define end-to-end process flows, including process steps, key parameters, control limits, and acceptance criteria.
  • >
  • Design, write, and execute detailed test plans to evaluate new materials, coatings, and process changes.
  • >
  • Plan and conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) to systematically improve yield, performance, and manufacturability.
  • >
  • Work directly with the capacitor manufacturing team to run experiments, collect data, and implement process improvements on the production line.
  • >
  • Analyze test results, identify root causes, and translate findings into actionable process changes.
  • >
  • Generate clear, thorough documentation, including process specifications, work instructions, test reports, and manufacturing change documentation.
  • >
  • Support the insertion of new or modified processes into the manufacturing line, including qualification, validation, and handoff to production.
  • >
  • Use standard materials and process characterization tools to evaluate materials, coatings, and finished components.
  • >
  • Collaborate closely with materials scientists, manufacturing engineers, and technicians to ensure successful scale-up and production readiness.
  • >

Qualifications
  • Education: MS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related engineering or science discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • >
  • Experience: 5+ years of industrial experience developing, optimizing, and scaling manufacturing processes in a production or pilot-scale environment.
  • >
  • Strong understanding of process development, process control, and scale-up principles.
  • >
  • Hands-on experience designing and executing test plans and DOE.
  • >
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • >
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex process and materials issues.
  • >
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical work.
  • >
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication processes such as thin film deposition, capacitor manufacturing, etching processes
  • >
  • Hands-on experience with materials and process characterization techniques, including:
  • >
