SUMMARY OF PRINCIPAL & MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Marketing leads the development and execution of Visit Corpus Christi's integrated marketing strategy across Leisure, B2B/Group, Sports, and Film & Music audiences. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role owns brand positioning, campaign strategy, digital and content marketing, paid media, and partnership marketing, translating organizational goals and Vision 2030 priorities into measurable marketing programs. The Director of Marketing leads and develops the marketing team, collaborates closely with Communications, Marketing Operations, and Sales to ensure aligned, on-brand storytelling, and serves as a strategic partner to leadership in growing destination awareness, visitation, and economic impact.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions):

  • Develop, lead, and continuously refine VCC's integrated annual marketing strategy across leisure, group/B2B, sports, and film & music verticals, in alignment with organizational goals and Vision 2030.
  • Own brand positioning, voice, and creative direction, ensuring a consistent and compelling identity across all channels and audiences.
  • Direct the planning and execution of multi-channel campaigns spanning digital, social, paid media, content, email, web, and print.
  • Develop and manage the marketing budget in partnership with the VP of Marketing, allocating resources for maximum return and accountability.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the marketing team, setting goals, conducting performance evaluations, and identifying opportunities for professional growth and continuing education.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Communications to align earned, owned, and paid storytelling across the organization.
  • Partner with the Director of Marketing Operations to ensure campaigns are properly scoped, trafficked, and delivered through established workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Sales Officer, Sales & Sports Commission, and Film & Music Commission to support group, convention, sports, and film/music marketing needs.
  • Establish and monitor marketing KPIs and dashboards; provide regular performance reporting, analysis, and insights to leadership.
  • Guide audience research, market analysis, and data-driven segmentation to inform strategy, targeting, and personalization.
  • Champion the responsible use of approved analytics, CRM, and marketing-technology platforms to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Ensure all marketing reflects inclusive, authentic, and accessible representation of Corpus Christi and its communities.
  • Monitor destination-marketing, travel, and digital trends, bringing innovative and fiscally responsible ideas to keep VCC at the forefront of the tourism industry.
  • Represent Visit Corpus Christi at industry events, partner meetings, and community functions as a marketing leader and brand ambassador.
  • Model clear expectations and build a culture of creativity, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across the marketing function.


Other Functions:

  • Travel to attend industry events and to promote the destination to potential visitors (Up to 15% of the year).

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive marketing experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or management role; destination marketing, tourism, or hospitality experience preferred.


License/Certifications:

  • Must have valid driver's license and must be insurable under VCC current motor vehicle insurance policy.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for extended periods of time. Shall be able to apply 20 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to view computer screen for extended period of time with clear, close-up vision.
