Job Summary:
Colgate University is seeking a forward-thinking Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join their Services and Shared Infrastructure team within Information Technology Services (ITS). In this role, you will play a pivotal part in driving Colgate's continued transition to a modern, hybrid cloud infrastructure and system architecture, focusing on cloud architecture, systems administration, and project management.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the day-to-day design, administration, and optimization of Colgates cloud and hybrid infrastructure.
• Manages cloud architecture standards and building infrastructure automation utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of the enterprise cloud environment.
• Maintains and improves cloud infrastructure and services, specifically within AWS & Azure.
• Oversees the uptime, efficiency, and maintenance of campus on-premise virtual environments (Hyper-V), servers (Linux and Windows), network access control (Aruba ClearPass), storage arrays (Pure Storage), and enterprise software firewalls (Palo Alto).
• Provides strategic input to guide the ITS Campus Infrastructure plan, supporting current and future building projects and campus needs.
• Maintains familiarity with modern AI frameworks, actively researching current and emerging AI tools, cloud, and networking technologies to apply best practices.
• Safely integrating AI tools into daily tasks where appropriate, maintaining a security-first mindset regarding data sharing with AI tools.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully lead small projects and participate in large projects by creating project plans, developing requirements, and coordinating across teams.

• Proactively identify, analyze, diagnose, document, and resolve technical issues and requests within a centralized ticketing system.
• Research complex issues to find effective resolutions to technical problems.
• Maintain clear operational documentation and contribute to the teams knowledge of cloud best practices.
• Acquire and maintain technical knowledge through self-paced training, courses, seminars, and other professional development methods.
• Work cooperatively and communicatively with colleagues, partners, and customers.
• Manage technical assignments and maintain key relationships with student workers and/or interns.
• Provide mentorship, training, and leadership to student workers and interns as necessary.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned to assist the department in achieving and maintaining its core mission.
• Participate in the teams after-hours on-call rotation, one week per team member, to respond to issues outside of normal business hours.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Demonstrated experience with AWS environments, including VPC peering, Transit Gateways, Gateway Load Balancers (GWLB), and egress/ingress filtering.
• Demonstrated experience in regulatory frameworks, IAM, encryption, DLP.
• Demonstrated experience with Azure environments, including Azure Virtual Network (VNet), Azure Virtual WAN (vWAN), Azure Gateway Load Balancer (GWLB), and egress/ingress filtering.
• Experience with containerization, hands-on experience deploying and managing workloads in Kubernetes environments (knowledge of Service Mesh/Istio preferred).
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting DHCP, DNS, firewalls, and VPN routing across wired and wireless enterprise networks.
• Familiarity with managing secure data transfers and pipeline protocols (SSH, SFTP, HTTPS, REST APIs, and foundational knowledge of cloud data warehouses like Amazon RDS, Bedrock, Redshift, ETL).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with people of all skill levels.
• Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the academic, cultural, and social diversity in the Colgate University community.
• Ability to work outside normal working hours as needed.
• Bachelors Degree in Information Technology (or related field) alongside 3-5 years of dedicated cloud infrastructure experience (equivalent combinations of education and experience welcomed).
Preferred:
• Experience delivering infrastructure as code. Experience automation scripting or deploying infrastructure utilizing tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
• Experience operating enterprise-level network hardware, ideally utilizing Aruba Networks and Aruba ClearPass authentication systems.
• Technical proficiency in managing virtualized environments (Hyper-V, VMware) and standard server configurations (Active Directory, Web, and Database servers across Linux and Windows OS).
• Experience with integrating AI APIs and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows into existing enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with AI/ML standard frameworks and libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, LangChain, or Hugging Face.
• Familiarity with managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls and implementing industry-standard security controls.
• Experience scripting relating to managing network infrastructure or servers.
• Knowledge of copper and fiber cabling, TCP/IP, routing, BGP, Palo Alto firewalls, and cloud networking infrastructure.
• Higher Education Experience. Prior experience working within a college or university IT ecosystem.
• Applicable cloud architecture, networking & infrastructure, and/or IT certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate / Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional / Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Aruba Certified Professional, Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA)).
