About the Role:
The Center for the Integration & Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) is a community-based, nonprofit social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants into the socio-economic and civic life of American society while maintaining pride in their cultural heritage.
CIANA is looking for a highly personable, detail-oriented, and experienced attorney to provide immigration legal services in a community-based setting. Applicant must be a self-starter and a team player who is able to work well with a small legal team. This position is in-person at our Astoria, Queens office.
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school;
  • Passed the NY Uniform Bar Exam and is fully authorized to practice law in NY State,
  • 3+ years experience practicing immigration law;
  • Experience in filing various forms of immigration relief, including but not limited to Naturalization, Adjustment of Status, DACA, Family/Fianc Petitions, Employment Authorization Document (EAD), TPS, VAWA, Asylum, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS);
  • Strong research skills and ability to analyze complex immigration issues effectively;
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and interns;
  • Strong background and experience with defensive court cases in immigration and family court.

Duties:
  • Conduct legal consultations/screenings and determine available relief;
  • Schedule and confirm new appointments and maintain caseload;
  • Manage correspondence between CIANA, clients, partner organization, and government institutions;
  • Document legal cases in CIANA database management system and maintain physical case files;
  • Attend trainings and meetings with other organizations;
  • Accompany and represent clients in immigration and/or family court.
Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
