General Summary
The Media Content Specialist leads Odessa College's digital communications, content strategy, and institutional storytelling efforts. This position develops and manages digital content that strengthens the College's brand, expands community awareness, increases audience engagement, and supports institutional priorities across multiple communication platforms. The Media Content Specialist uses audience insights, analytics, and emerging technologies to continuously refine communication strategies and maximize the College's digital presence.
Specific Position Duties
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital media and content strategy that supports institutional priorities, enrollment outreach, workforce development, student engagement, and community awareness.
  • Manage the College's presence across social media, blog, short form video, on-campus digital communications, traditional press and media relations, and emerging communication platforms to ensure consistent messaging and brand standards.
  • Create, coordinate, and publish engaging content that highlights students, employees, alumni, academic programs, partnerships, campus events, and institutional achievements.
  • Monitor digital engagement, audience behavior, and campaign performance to evaluate effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to identify communication opportunities and develop content that supports college initiatives and strategic priorities.
  • Coordinate digital communication plans for major institutional events, enrollment campaigns, community outreach, and special projects.
  • Manage the College's blog content strategy and work collaboratively to ensure information is current, accessible, and user-focused.
  • Develop and manage the student content creator program, including recruitment, training, assignments, production schedules, coaching, quality assurance, brand compliance and professional development.
  • Coordinate photography, videography, multimedia content, and digital asset management to support institutional communications.
  • Prepare executive communications, institutional publications, speeches, presentations, and strategic messaging, as assigned.
  • Serve as the College's media relations coordinator and Public Information Officer, as appropriate, including coordinating media inquiries, news releases, and crisis communications.
  • Monitor emerging digital communication trends, technologies, and AI-enabled platforms to enhance institutional outreach and engagement.
  • Attend college events to capture content and support institutional communication efforts.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in digital communications, marketing, social media management, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience developing digital content strategies and managing multiple communication platforms.
  • Proficiency with content management systems, social media management platforms, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable design and multimedia software.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support college events and activities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education, public sector, nonprofit, or community-focused organizations.
  • Experience in photography, videography, multimedia production, and content creation.
  • Experience supervising employees, interns, or student workers.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, branding, digital analytics, and emerging communication technologies, including AI-assisted content development.
