Description

Howard County Library System is seeking an IT Web (Intranet) Intern to assist with the maintenance, organization, and improvement of the library's staff intranet. Working with the IT team, the intern will help enhance content organization, usability, accessibility, and overall user experience within the library's WordPress-based intranet environment. 

This internship offers hands-on experience in web content management, user experience (UX), accessibility, information architecture, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities 

  • You conduct audits of intranet content, navigation, and site structure. 
  • You identify and document outdated content, broken links, and usability issues. 
  • You assist with content organization, page updates, and information architecture improvements. 
  • You support WordPress administration, including page templates, media management, and content maintenance. 
  • You participate in user research, surveys, and usability testing. 
  • You assist with accessibility reviews and recommendations. 
  • You perform quality assurance testing across browsers and devices. 
  • You create user guides, training materials, and technical documentation. 
  • You help develop content governance and workflow documentation. 
  • You present project findings and recommendations at the conclusion of the internship. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications: 

  • Current enrollment in a degree program related to Information Technology, Computer Science, Web Development, Information Systems, UX Design, Information Science, or a related field. 
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other content management systems preferred. 
  • Basic knowledge of web technologies, including HTML and CSS. 
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. 
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively. 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Experience with website or application testing and QA processes.  
  • Familiarity with accessibility and usability best practices.  
  • Experience using Microsoft Office or other collaboration tools.  
  • Understanding of content governance and information architecture concepts. 


Additional Details:

  • Pay rate: $20/hourly
  • Position located at the Administrative Branch in Ellicott City, MD
  • 11 weeks; Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm
  • This position will close at 4:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2026
