Job description

Job purpose
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Security Intern to join our cybersecurity team. This internship provides hands-on experience in information security operations, threat monitoring, and security best practices. The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or a related field and has a genuine passion for protecting digital assets and infrastructure.
Essential functions - include but not limited to
  • Assist in monitoring security alerts and events through SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools.
  • Support vulnerability scanning and help document findings for remediation.
  • Help maintain and review security policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Participate in phishing simulation campaigns and security awareness training efforts.
  • Assist with access control reviews and user account audits.
  • Research emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends and present findings to the team.
  • Support incident response activities under the guidance of senior security staff.
  • Help with compliance tracking related to frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or HIPAA.
  • Assist in configuring and maintaining security tools including firewalls, endpoint protection, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Possible systems administration and network systems configuration and maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, experience, certification & licensure
Required:
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or recent undergrad graduate in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPNs)
  • Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux operating systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity

Preferred:
  • Coursework or certifications in security (CompTIA Security+, or similar)
  • Exposure to tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, Nessus, or Metasploit
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, or Bash)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, or GCP)
