General Civil Engineering Team Leader

Location: Orlando, FL
Description
As Engineering Team Leader for the DRMP Orlando Office General Civil team, you will be responsible for day-to-day engineering business development and operating activities of the team. You will be directly managing a team of engineers, technical staff, and student interns to ensure the successful execution of engineering design projects while facilitating smooth daily operations, consistent workflow, and continued professional development of staff. Critical to the role is the ability to collaborate effectively the DRMP's Orlando based engineering (roadway, drainage, traffic, structures), survey, and CEI teams.
ELIGIBLE FOR SIGN ON BONUS
Your Primary Responsibilities will include
  • Operational Management:
    • Actively manage the day-to-day business including staffing, planning, and execution of project assignments within the team.
    • Provide technical guidance and manage quality checks for all project work.
    • Serve as primary escalation point for engineering activities to ensure that appropriate corporate resources are leveraged.
    • Serve in collaboration with engineering service line leaders to manage efficient resource allocation and workload balancing.
    • Manage issues to achieve root cause identification and deploy corrective actions.
  • Business Development:
    • Manage, coordinate, and conduct business development outreach to general civil public (city/county/etc.) and private clients and stakeholders to identify opportunities for DRMP engineering and other service lines.
    • Drive growth of DRMP revenue by securing engineering related work. Work collaboratively with DRMP Marketing and BD staff for RFP/RFQ response letters, technical proposals, and presentations.
    • Work collaboratively with all DRMP service lines to evaluate and communicate operational and business opportunities for Orlando area and regional engineering growth decisions.
  • Client/Stakeholder Relationships:
    • Develop and maintain professional relationships with local/state government agencies and other clients in the Orlando region.
    • Manage DRMP's participation in Orlando area General Civil related professional societies and other client engagement functions.
  • Staff Development/Hiring:
    • Support DRMP's recruiting, hiring, and training strategy, including for student interns.
    • Identify career development opportunities for engineering staff (including pipeline for graduating engineering student interns).
    • Effectively communicate the corporate goals, philosophy, and culture.
    • Embody the DRMP culture and contribute to the high level of employee morale.
    • Manage and mentor staff in all facets of project work and the DRMP standard of high-quality service.
    • Communicate performance expectations, review staff performance, and provide regular and formal feedback.

What you'll need
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering and Civil PE licensure in Florda.
  • Experience:
    • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience with general civil engineering (site, stormwater, utility, parks, roadway, etc.) design. Engineering experience with minor/major roadway design is preferred.
    • Experience in working with a team of resources in leadership of general civil & municipal engineering business development. Prior experience with civil engineering clients in the central Florida area is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external constituencies.
    • Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to forge strong relationships within DRMP.
    • Prior leadership experience, including leading successful teams and projects.
    • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
    • Good problem-solving skills combined with a questioning attitude that probes issues and seeks resolutions compatible with the assigned projects.
    • Scope/schedule/fee development and management experience.
    • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ICPR, & Ponds preferred.
    • Experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment preferred.
    • Valid driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history required.
