Job description

Old Mission is a global proprietary trading firm that leverages state-of-the-art technology and research to identify and execute profitable trading strategies across multiple asset classes around the world. Our offices in Chicago, New York, and London are all composed of naturally-curious individuals who thrive in a team environment and constantly strive for improvement.
Old Mission does not seek capital from outside investors, allowing us the flexibility to aggressively invest in our team members and keep them engaged in the firm's growth.
About the Role:
Old Mission is seeking an experienced trader to serve as second-in-command of our Education function, partnering directly with the Head of Education to build, run, and continuously improve how we develop traders across the firm. The right candidate has sat on a market-making or trading desk, understands P&L and risk at an intimate level, and wants their next chapter to be shaping the next generation of traders.
What You'll Do:
  • Co-own the design and delivery of Old Mission's trader training curriculum and deliver a meaningful share of the teaching load which includes but isn't limited to options theory, market microstructure, risk management, and mock-trading exercises
  • Act as the bridge between the trading desks and the classroom to pull real, current market scenarios into training content, so it stays grounded in how Old Mission actually trades
  • Directly mentor and evaluate junior traders and interns, and provide hands-on, desk-level feedback
  • Work with the Head of Education on day-to-day program management which includes scheduling, curriculum iteration, cohort tracking, and reporting on trainee progress to senior leadership
  • Partner with desk heads to identify skill gaps and build targeted training curriculums for existing traders, not just new hires
  • Help build out a more formal trader development pipeline, including rotational assignments, structured feedback loops, and criteria for promotion into trading seats
  • Continue to build out and professionalize internship programs, from structure and curriculum through selection and conversion to full-time offers
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders (Recruiting, Quantitative Research, Technology, etc.) on an ad hoc and as-needed basis to improve and strengthen other talent pipelines within the firm
  • Pursue other trading and non-trading projects during non-teaching periods as time and interest allow

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience as a trader at a proprietary trading firm, market maker, or similar quantitative trading environment
  • Fluency in options pricing, hedging, and risk management (experience trading other asset classes a plus)
  • Experience designing and/or teaching a formal training curriculum
  • Comfortable operating with authority on the desk and in the classroom
  • Program/project management experience: comfortable owning a curriculum, tracking cohort progress, and iterating based on outcomes
  • Basic programming experience in Python
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to break down complex concepts

Base Salary Range
$175,000 - $200,000 - Salaries are based on numerous factors such as skills, experience, and education. Our compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits program for full-time employees. For more information, reach out to your recruiter.
Benefits and Perks
  • Fully paid Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, and Life Insurance
  • Fully stocked kitchen; free breakfast and lunch every day on-site
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid Vacation, Sick, and Parental leaves
  • Commuter and Flexible Spending Programs
