Job description

Position Overview:

We are looking for a highly skilled CNC Machinist to join our team in the production of high-precision aerospace and defense components. As a CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for operating and programming CNC machines to manufacture parts that meet strict specifications and high-quality standards. This role requires expertise in machining complex components, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work with tight tolerances in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • CNC Machine Operation: Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines, to produce high-precision aerospace and defense parts in accordance with engineering drawings and customer specifications.
  • Programming and Setup: Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and 3D models to program CNC machines. Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for efficiency and precision.
  • Quality Control: Perform in-process inspections and use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, etc.) to ensure parts meet required tolerances and specifications. Adjust machine settings and programs as necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues with machine performance, tooling, or part quality. Perform routine maintenance and ensure machines are running efficiently.
  • Tooling and Fixture Management: Select and set up appropriate tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices to ensure proper machining of parts. Maintain tooling inventory and ensure tools are in good condition.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve part quality.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including setup sheets, machine logs, and inspection reports. Document any changes made to programs or setups.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, quality control inspectors, and other team members to address any challenges or discrepancies during the manufacturing process.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and protocols, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating CNC machines in a machining environment, preferably in aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CNC programming, setup, and operation (both manual and computer-aided). Experience with FANUC, Siemens, or similar controls is preferred.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of aerospace and defense industry standards (e.g., AS9100, MIL-STD) and machining processes. Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and 3D models.
  • Precision and Attention to Detail: Ability to work with tight tolerances and complex geometries. Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues with machines, tooling, or processes.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and documenting work.
  • Certifications (preferred): Certification from a recognized machining or manufacturing program (e.g., NIMS, CNC certification) is preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or related field is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time while operating machines.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to handle precision tools and machinery.
  • Ability to work in a noisy and fast-paced environment.

Company Benefits:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for career development and advancement.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and holiday pay.
