Location: Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore, MD- Surgical Pathology Lab
Full Time/Day Shift- 8am- 4:30pm
Weekend Rotationing
***Will Consider Clinical Laboratory Scientist I or II***
Position Summary:
  • The Clinical Lab Scientist I (MLT/Medical Lab Technologist or Medical Lab Scientist) reports to Pathology Lab Manager, Supervisor or Lead (or assigned Charge). Handles assigned specimen pre-analytical and analytical tasks, performs selected routine laboratory tests and records and reports results following standard operating procedures, policies and regulatory guidelines. Sets up and maintains equipment; monitors quality control standards.
  • Responsible for initiating or verifying proper actions are taken to resolve problems, provides expertise in processing and workflow of specimens.
  • Where assigned reviews lab requisitions and collects pertinent clinical and insurance information.
  • May perform data entry, pre-analytical set up, routine clerical and service duties as required. May support the laboratory inventory/ordering, and back-up to other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Associates degree as MLT (Medical Lab Technologist) or BS degree in related field (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) with some lab experience/education internship or lab courses /qualifying towards lab certification.

Work Experience:
  • Completed MLT clinical rotations or MLT internship OR previous experience in a clinical or research laboratory.
  • BS degree with related courses where good lab practices were taught; may also be considered.

Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:
  • None required.
  • For this level, certification from ASCP or other department-approved agency is encouraged but not required. CMS allows CLS 1 to perform testing with training/supervision of a CLS 2 or higher.

Salary Range: Minimum 28.39/hour - Maximum 46.87/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
