General Description:

The Director of Production & Technical Arts provides strategic leadership and creative oversight for all aspects of Mt. Zion’s production ministry across all campuses. This includes live and broadcast worship experiences, conferences, special events, ministry events, recordings and technical systems. The Director ensures that every production environment reflects the spiritual excellence, creativity, and quality that Mt. Zion is known for.

This individual leads teams in audio, video, lighting, stage management, and broadcast operations, developing systems, people, and experiences that amplify the vision and the church’s mission of “Growing Believers and Producing Achievers.”

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Serve as the primary visionary and strategist for the Production Department.
  • Translate the ministry’s mission and vision into executable production plans that enhance worship, communication, and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Church Life Officer, Senior Pastor, and Worship & Creative teams to ensure production excellence across all platforms.
  • Develop department goals, budgets, and annual operating plans aligned with overall ministry priorities.
  • Create scalable systems and workflows for multi-campus production operations.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee all technical aspects of worship and event production, including audio, lighting, video, stage design, and broadcast.
  • Ensure quality and consistency across all services, streams, and locations.
  • Lead planning and execution for major church events, conferences, and special services.
  • Maintain excellence in technical systems integration, equipment maintenance, and media infrastructure.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and procurement processes.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop a team of staff and volunteer production professionals, including producers, engineers, operators, and stage managers.
  • Foster a culture of spiritual growth, professionalism, and servant leadership.
  • Create and maintain systems for recruiting, onboarding, and training volunteers.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations that align with church values and expectations.

Creative Collaboration

  • Partner with Worship, Marketing, and Media and all ministry teams to create seamless, engaging, and spirit-filled experiences.
  • Champion innovation in technology and creative design to enhance storytelling and ministry impact.
  • Oversee stage aesthetics, transitions, and environmental design for worship and events.
  • Support digital and social media content through high-quality audio/video production.

Systems, Structure & Administration

  • Manage department scheduling, workflows, and project timelines using platforms such as Monday.com and Planning Center.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and ensure all production assets are properly managed and maintained.
  • Oversee budget stewardship, expense tracking, and equipment life cycles.E
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, copyright regulations, and technical best practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry production equipment (e.g., cameras, tripods) as needed. Ability to stand, kneel, or move around for extended periods during productions.

Key Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in production, Communications, Media Arts, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience leading production or technical teams in a church, broadcast, or live event environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-site or large-scale production operations.
  • Strong technical expertise in live audio, lighting, video, and streaming technologies.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership, team development, and project execution.
