GTI is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of Battery Energy Storage System enclosures and integrated platforms. This role is responsible for developing manufacturable steel structures, equipment layouts, thermal management strategies, and serviceable enclosure designs that support high-power battery and inverter equipment. The engineer will collaborate with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and integration teams to deliver production-ready modular energy storage systems.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & System Packaging

  • Design steel enclosures and structural platforms housing battery cabinets, PCS inverters, transformers, and electrical distribution equipment

  • Develop equipment layouts supporting service access, ventilation, thermal separation, and cable routing zones

  • Design modular steel assemblies, sheet metal components, structural weldments, and integrated equipment platforms using SolidWorks

  • Coordinate mechanical packaging and enclosure design activities supporting modular BESS integration

Structural, Thermal & CFD Analysis

  • Perform structural analysis and FEA on welded assemblies, lifting structures, anchoring systems, and transport frames

  • Perform CFD and thermal analysis supporting battery cooling, HVAC airflow, and heat rejection within enclosed systems

  • Support thermal management strategies for high-power electrical equipment operating within compact enclosure environments

  • Evaluate structural integrity, airflow performance, and manufacturability throughout product development activities

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering teams to coordinate penetrations, cable trays, grounding provisions, equipment spacing, and integration requirements

  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Integration teams to ensure designs support fabrication, assembly, welding, and field installation requirements

  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles supporting efficient production and integration workflows

  • Support prototype builds, factory integration activities, and NPI phase gate reviews

Compliance, Testing & Production Support

  • Ensure designs support UL 9540 energy storage system certification requirements and thermal event mitigation strategies

  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to mechanical issues identified during testing, integration, or production

  • Participate in design reviews, prototype evaluations, and production launch activities

  • Support standardization of enclosure architectures, structural design practices, and modular packaging strategies across BESS product lines

Technical Leadership

    • Mentor CAD technicians and junior engineers on enclosure design, modular packaging strategies, and design best practices

    • Support development of engineering documentation, design standards, and manufacturing release packages

    • Provide technical guidance throughout design, fabrication, integration, and production activities
